Our Long National Nightmare Has Just Begun By Ted Rall
Like Cornered Rats, GOP Losers More Dangerous Than Ever

11/09/06 NEW YORK--"My fellow Americans," assured incoming president Gerald Ford hours after the Watergate scandals forced Richard Nixon to resign, "our long national nightmare is over."

I'm tempted, in the aftermath of the widest and most stunning electoral repudiation of Republicanism since Watergate, to mark the Democratic recapture of governorships, the House of Representatives (and probably the Senate) as the beginning of the end of Bush's fascism lite, and thus a long overdue vindication of what I've been saying about him since his December 2000 coup d'état.

Back in 2001 and 2002, state-controlled media called me radical. Now, with most Americans seeing things my way, I'm mainstream. Yet I'm more scared now.

1. We Have a Lot to Undo--Impeachment And Prosecution Is the Way
We must impeach those still in office, prosecute those who resign, pursue them as hounds of hell would, as Bush never did Osama.

2. Good article! I agree, and the police state is something that I fear as well.
Especially now that the repukes are out of absolute control, it has been my fear that this could be the Emperor Palpatine moment of just disbanding the senate.

Palpatine's words from Star Wars Episode I have echoed in my head through this whole administration, when the trade federation dickhead asked him, "Is that legal?" and Palpatine said, "I'll make it legal".

That's what we've had six years of so far - Shrubbie making things legal.

3. I can forego all the talk of impeachment, if the Democratic Congress
can rid this nation of the authouritarian trash that was thrown to us by the Shrubmen! I want my country back! Pre 9-11!

4. Ted is right. If you watched CNN today,
they had a plethora of GOP talking penises spewing their party line. It was scary. I don't think it has sunk in yet that they are "screwn." If they keep up that kind of rhetoric, they will make for fun cable programs, but truly turn off every single American who dares engage his brain.

5. Like cornered, TOOTHLESS rats is more like it.
Watching Limbaugh dump Bush the other day was proof that the emperor really does not have any clothes. I think Iran is dnow officially off.

8. Face it, he's a bum
and thank God he is not a brilliant, ragingly energized and competent tyrant. All the garbage lazily accumulated for his leisure and pleasure suddenly means REAL risk and effort repudiated by the masses he feared in the first place. He created his own downfall out of whole cloth, not tools of power he can wield. His cronies are starting to peel off- Pentagon and war first falling by the wayside with such speed the Dems are not prepared for the highway to peace now re-opened like the Prince has simply cut a ribbon. They never had proper direction. This is a massive conspiracy with an indolent heir yawning and reaching for his snuff box and snuff films.

The long con is over and the figurehead or whatever he is, so poor his performance as chief leader of the planet among a world of second class leaders that no one knows to this day if he ever had or meant to use
all the strings of despotic power accumulated simply to make things EASY for him. And as the president, alas, the King of Conservatism, the vast machinery of retrograde fascism is stuck not with a Hitler but a
sickly fop grinding his party and tools to simple dust.

The nightmare is still ongoing, but mostly it is, as Klugman notes, simple shame and revulsion at indulging in old historical evils that have persisted as shadows of shadows in a world they threaten mostly by distracting humanity from great turning points and dangers of inevitable, evolutionary progress. The underpinnings of ignorance, greed and hatred will continue. That real nightmare has been fairly constant.

7. I would like to say this is not true, but I would be in a state of denial......
too much celebration. Verify what the round object in this picture actually is/or is not, and you have a Rosetta Stone of the Bush administration.

13. It is a turbine blade at the Pentagon no one has been able to identify it.
The question is in plain sight. Whoever can identify what it is can answer a lot of questions. Impeachement might be irrevelant.

What type of jet engine did that come off of?

16. No one has figured that out.
Some who should know say it is not from a rebuilt Rolls Royce turbo fan.

18. Check it out it is probably not a Honeywell GTCP331-200 APU part.
I'm sure who knows could end all of the rumors if they wanted to. My point is all of the rumors and conspiracy theories would end with a few facts.

11. I would like to agree with
him, these A Hole are most dangerous when cornered, they can be like Harbor Shark, Dems need to be extremely cautious. I would throw caution to the wind.

Until we start picking them up like pawns I'd be cautious.

12. I think this column is why I still have a residual sense of concern
I haven't been able to really feel celebratory, even though one good thing seems to be coming after another.
I think that these people -- Bush and his minions - have so little respect for democracy that a lost election, the law, history, tradition -- all of it doesn't matter to them.
There is nothing that is beneath them.

is that that have made as much money as they could possibly have made as long as they held power, and can now retire in Paraguay.
