"Lieberman: Call Me a Democrat" Well, THIS is a relief.

I guess he owes the big gun Dems something for them not campaigning for Lamont, eh?

Lieberman: Call Me a Democrat
By Associated Press

U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman smiles during a news ...
WASHINGTON - Sen. Joe Lieberman, who won re-election as an independent, has a message for his Senate colleagues in the next Congress: Call me a Democrat.

The three-term Connecticut lawmaker defied party leaders when he launched his independent bid after losing to Democrat Ned Lamont in the August primary. During the campaign, he vowed to be an "independent-minded Democrat" if he were re-elected. In Tuesday's election, Lieberman won strong GOP support and given the closely divided Senate, Republicans are expected to court him.

So will he count as a Democrat or an independent who caucuses with the majority Democrats? In an e-mail message late Thursday, Lieberman spokesman Dan Gerstein said the senator will begin his new term as a Democrat.

With the Democratic takeover of the Senate, Lieberman is in line to become chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.<snip>

1. Go, I could be SO sarcastic.

Is there a giant version of that sarcasm icon anywhere?

Still, he's probably talking about how he'll vote rather than up-suck to the pubs he'll be. In which case he'll probably have to stand by it, and that's good...

Blair has this disease and it's hideous to watch. He's built his whole premiership on being of the centre, so, because he's voted in from the left, he has to move right whenever the Tories point at him and accuse him of socialism. He's so effective at it they don't even need to point, he's got a built in imaginary Tory voter he's perpetually "wooing", almost 2 decades after the REAL electorate kicked the Tories out in utter disgust...

7. Oh God yes...

Blair is to the right of some of the pre-Thatcher Tories. And our 'centre' third party is to the left of Blair's 'Socialists'.

By the way, it's only 9 years, though it feels like longer. Mind you, the 18 Tory years felt like 100.

I suppose both our countries have had the centre moved more and more to the right. Maybe the pendulum will start to swing back again.

4. I make up my mind by their actions, not party label.
Labels don't seem to work anymore at determining one's philosophy and votes.

Inquiring minds want to know.

8. I'll stick with warmongering, asskissing, Bush stooge. It's more accurate.
But, it being a free (sorta) country, he can call himself whatever he wants. Like his pal the "compassionate conservative".

13. That's what irritates the hell outta me...we have to placate the smarmy
ass just to keep him "on our side." That SUCKS. I was really hoping for a 52/48 majority so we wouldn't have to do that, BUT then he could have changed to the repub party and we'd be in the same boat.:(

I guess we just have to put up with him.

I still can't believe I voted for him in 2000. I wonder what Al Gore thinks about what Joe has done?

12. Why would Lieberman go Republican? Joe is about Joe, and
the Republicans are yesterday's news. Well- unless you count the front page plasterings they're going to be enjoying for the next two years of investigations. Joe is a fair-weather friend, and the sun just came out in Democrat Land.

17. I Call Him A Horse's Rear End
This just makes me so damned angry that Liebermann is going to benefit from his treachery.

It is a slap in the face to all of the candidates who worked their tails off whether they won or lost.

Joe Liebermann did nothing to help get a Democratic Majority.

It is an insult to all of the activists who manned phone banks, knocked on doors and drove voters to the polls on Election Day.

Joe Liebermann didn't do a damned thing to help win this election for the Democrats.

And he will get rewarded for his action with a Committee Chairmanship. It just makes me sick. :puke:
