Poll question: Is the hate radio/Fox News era over?
Obviously they will go on lying, progandizing, slandering, and spreading hate, but do you think we've passed the point where they're having appreciable effect on the way elections come out?

6. No
This kind of thing thrives in a hostile environment. Limbaugh was at his height when Clinton was in office. A Dem majority, especially if the trifecta is completed in 2008 and Dems take the White House, will ensure that right wing radio and other media outlets enjoy big listenership, viewership, readership. It's the price of being successful.

Since yours was the first reply, Swingvoter probably just clicked on your reply button instead of the OP's right above it.

28. I agree. It'll be ramped up... not down.
The Tuesday intoxication seems to be impeding the often-marginal cognitive processes on DU.

Now they have a targetable scape goat for all the ills of the nation. Clinton is out of their sights (he's been out of range for years now of course...)

I said I think they will go on with the hate and lies, but I don't know if anyone's paying attention any more.

5. Gawd I hope so.
Their demographic definitely trends older, much older than the market they'd like to capture for long term survival or relevance. That's why I'm hopeful they are on their way down.

looking for others to blame for their lot in life. They love limbaugh/o'reilley types who tell them who to blame for their problems.

10. No won't go away........ it is hate radio
There is always an audience for the lies, insults and propaganda these hate mongers dispense. They claim the moral high road while they live in the gutter.

In order to get them off the radio, their rating have to go down.

14. No, they are still around.
The democratic congress must regulate the hell out of radio, and especially AM hate radio. Sure, it falls under "free speech", but when these assholes make repeated death threats and try to incite violence, should they not be subject to regulation?

15. They'll metastasize and adapt
It'll actually be easier for them. Now that there are some Democrats in actual charge of things, it's easier to blame things on democrats. They will no longer have to resort to lame messages like the war on Christmas.

33. Absolutely. Their audience is rage-o-holics
they're aging white males who are addicted to being enraged. It gets them off. It's all they have. Their personal relationships are sour. No talking to their kids and no women in their lives. They hate their jobs. And their co-workers.
They're mad that they don't have more money, women who love them, and children who respect them.
So. They listen to Rush or Hannity to be soothed that "it's not their fault." Blame feminists, minorities, immigrants, intellectuals, the media, and most of all -- liberals.
Mostly, though, they love rage. It makes them feel alive.

20. I voted No, but I don't think they need to be "reined in" either...
The further to the right the GOP goes, the more they'll marginalize themselves.

It used to scare me, how far-out the right wing was getting... now I welcome it. They are sealing their own fate.

They'll go back to work and try to work harder. As long as people are willing to be swayed by the last voice they hear, we must be prepared.

24. Nope

Until Tuesday it was difficult for them to point fingers and cast blame because the rethugs owned all three branches of govt. We just made their job a little easier. But it doesn't necessarily mean anyone will pay any attention to them.

31. Oh Good Lord NO! They've got new targets now!
They do best when Democrats have some power. They've got more people to target and blame.

They've had to make excuses for 6 years, and try to find a Democrat somewhere to blame for everything. Now they've got some. And they will have a willing audience to lap it up.

32. Perhaps- if the Democrats decide to end it.
They can now- by reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, putting responsible leadership in the FCC, and moving to break up big media monopolies.

If they have any sense, they will.
