Love it here (both DU and the HV!). Love Maurice too. I've been an every day reader of DU since the day after the 2002 mid-terms when I was looking for some solace and sanity. I just became a member and don't post much at all, but since I viewed this thread I thought I'd honor the OP's request to post a reply.

I owe a big thanks to DU - I have learned so much and become much more politically aware and active since I found you all!

One thing that is really great about this victory and return to reason is being able to celebrate it with my folks - both born and bread repubs that have gradually moved to the left over the last 10 years. When my dad called to share in the joy last night he said "who would have thought we'd be having this conversation 10 years ago?" Woo hoo!

I'll always feel nostalgic about those early days when DU was small and everybody pretty much knew everybody else. I miss alot of the other oldtimers, too. Time marches on, things change...

The early days were great fun; but just like watching one's own children grow from infants to adults, we have to get on with the present even as we cherish our memories of the past.

I may feel like mostly a stranger here these days, but DU is still THE best place ever to hang out.
