6. He was a wonderful old reprobate
and will be missed.

There are some actors out there I will go out of my way to watch, no matter what their politics might be. People have a right to be wrong, and I'm not paying them for their politics, but for their ability to tell a story.

Duvall is one. Palance was another.

May wherever he is be well stocked with booze and floozies.

18. Just after I saw that Palance had died, I read that Coach Bill Walsh has leukemia
Coach Walsh reveals he has leukemia
Kevin Lynch, Chronicle Staff Writer

Friday, November 10, 2006 02 18 PM

(11-10) 14:18 PST -- For the last few weeks inside his Woodside home, Bill Walsh has gotten his affairs in order. The Hall of Fame coach, and the father of the West Coast Offense has leukemia.

It's something Walsh has kept quiet until Friday.

"I'm positive, but not evangelistic," the 74-year-old Walsh told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and The Sports Xchange Web sites. "I'm pragmatically doing everything my physicians recommend, and I'm working my way through it."

A source told The Chronicle a fungus in Walsh's lungs three weeks ago made him gravely ill, but Walsh told the Web sites that he has rebounded.

24. One of Hollywood's unsung quality actors!
I was so happy when he finally got his Academy Award for City Slickers.

The guy was massively underrated.

Loved him as Boss Grissom in the 1980's Batman.

Loved him on the 1980's "Ripley's Believe It Or Not".

He was also a military veteran of WW2; a B-24 crewman.

RIP, Mr. Palance.

25. One year, many years ago when I was just a kid, Jack Palance
appeared on Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in a taped segment. He was dressed head to toe in black and sat on a barstool in front of a black curtain. There was no sound other than him speaking directly to the camera. He spoke of how he "attacked" his victims, crippling bodies and destroying lives. As you watched it, there was a creeping realization that something about this was not right.

He WAS muscular dystrophy.

It was one of the most frightening, chilling things I've ever seen, and I remember it to this day.

RIP, Jack--you were one in a million.
