This Made Me Sad......Damn Iraq
After his death, Sgt. Mock's words mean even more
By Arwa Damon
CNN
Editor's note: In our Behind the Scenes series, CNN correspondents share their experiences covering news and analyze the stories behind the events. CNN correspondent Arwa Damon has been based in Baghdad since March 2003.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- I was scrolling through the Pentagon's list of American troops killed in action in October, trying to determine how many deaths were caused by roadside bombs and how many by small-arms fire.

That's when I came across the name of Army Sgt. Willsun Mock, 23, of Harper, Kansas.

The realization that he died crashed down on me. (Watch Mock describe the thoughts and fears of a soldier at war -- 4:11)

WICHITA, Kansas - Just hours after President Bush expressed his concern about the death toll in Iraq, we learn that another Kansas soldier has died supporting the war. 23-year-old Sergeant Willsun Mock of Harper was killed Sunday when a bomb went off near his vehicle. October has been the deadliest month this year in Iraq with 93 U.S. deaths so far. Sgt. Mock one of three killed Sunday. For his friends and family, the war in Iraq couldn't get any closer to home.

4. I saw that on CNN Interntional
here in the UK at about 6pm GMT today and immediately looked up the links to him.

Words defy me.

His death, although I obviously didn't know him, brought home to me the tragedy of this war more than anything else I've seen recently. What a waste of life. He was a decent soldier doing his job to the best of his ability on his second assignment there.

5. Why I am not jumping for joy at the Dem Sweep.
People are still dying, being maimed and suffering in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Wars of Global Empire.

6. I just watched the video ........
What a precious, precious boy.....and what a waste. I have often thought that if one of my own kids were to be killed in this foolish war I wouldn't be able to control myself. I honestly don't know what I would do. I am just a pudgy little woman with my hair in a bun..I work with special needs preschoolers-- don't think I have ever felt the emotion of rage in the whole of my life, but I am sure that emotion would overtake me if I was this boy's mama.

and the horrible thing is that nothing will ever ever bring him back.....

just how does our president sleep at night?
