Conservatism lost. Conservatism was defeated. |
|
I'm starting to get really tired of hearing these conservative hacks say that conservatism prevailed on Tuesday and that the Republicans lost because they either "didn't get their message out" or because the party somehow strayed from conservatism. This excuse-making spin reminds me a lot of the Right's reactions after George Bush Sr. defeat in 1992. Their message did get out, and the American people rejected it.

2. conservatism balances the books |
|
conservatives don't pursue foreign wars conservatives don't wage drugs wars against personal choice conservatives don't block womens equality or rights conservatives leave women to their own family planning conservatives don't take money for government favours conservatives publish the spending accounts of every government penny conservatives balance the books
Whowever the fuck has been in charge the past few years, it certainly has no business calling itself anything remotely like conservative.

3. You know what cracks me up about that excuse? |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 09:02 PM by Marr
Voters rejected the GOP's total divorce from reality and their tendency to offer backwards spin and tortured slogans in place of rational policy. Voters rejected their dishonesty and total unwillingness to accept responsibility for anything. They rejected the sort of "black is white, up is down" excuse making that the apologists are using to console themselves.
So this excuse is sort of irony squared.

They got the message out. But the American people rejected it, just as you said. There was nothing in the GOP message but "more of the same", along with endless attacks and character assassinations of Democrats. No substance. The Democratic Party may not have all the answers, but we at least have a better message than "our opponents are traitors. No cut n run - more of the same".
Whether that is a defeat of conservatism or not I don't know. Ringo

6. Conservatism certainly lost this election. |
|
But before we, as Democrats, start getting swelled heads let's win more than just a single election. Two wins would be good because 2 is the minimum number required to make a "row". I want us to win 2 in a row and then to let the row stretch out.
