I wonder if my fellow DUers think that this shit didn't hurt our beloved Kephra's feelings. I know how it feels, too. I'm not as big as I used to be but, if anyone here thinks that being overweight is a choice and easy to change, I can personally vouch for how very wrong they are.

I've spoken out about this in the past and so have many others. But admin had been extremely remiss in not aggressively shutting down such threads. If race and sexual orientation slurs can get a DUer kicked to the curb, why are size slurs okay?

Edit: I admit insulting heavier people is probably more common and certainly all the rage these days, but that doesn't mean it doesn't go both ways. As a high school student, being a 5'11" male who weighed about 100 pound, can't tell you how many times I'd heard "Don't you eat?" "Doesn't your momma cook for you?", etc. and from teachers as often as students.

Where did that assumption come from? Did I post a pun about her name? A laughing emoticon? Nope.

I was alarmed, not amused. It was stunning to me, and I reacted accordingly. I mean, my visceral reaction was "jesus christ! she's not healthy!" It was involuntary. I love John Goodman, but I have the same reaction when I see him these days. Same with the late John Candy, whom I also liked.

Having said that, I refuse to conform to what others tell me to think or feel about subjects like these. As for the sexism, that's just stupid. It's wishful thinking from someone a bit too eager to assert their moral superiority over the "unenlightened" who need public chastisement.

If anyone finds my reaction funny, that's fine by me - I don't get off on telling others how to think or feel about people. We have enough authoritarian behavior in America.
