59% of Pelosi's own constituents voted to impeach Bush on Tuesday. |
|
from http://www.newhousenews.com/archive/tilove111006.html (last paragraph): Pelosi, as it happens, was among the Americans in a handful of jurisdictions who has had a chance to vote on impeachment. Proposition J on the San Francisco ballot Tuesday called for the impeachment of Bush and Vice President Cheney. It passed with 59 percent of the vote. In neighboring Berkeley, a similar measure passed with nearly 70 percent of the vote.It appears that impeachment is very much ON the table.

2. Right now, they are a lot closer than the streets of |
|
Macon, Georgia or Boise, Idaho.
I would bet money that if, in the last election, there had been a nationwide referendum on starting investigations that would lead to impeachment, said referendum would have passed 60/40.

5. It sure looks that way. |
|
There was already one Newsweek poll showing that a majority of Americans would consider impeachment if Bush lied us into Iraq, which he pretty clearly did.

9. I think it depends on the definition of "lied". |
|
There are two. Most--but far from all--people here have one. Most--but far from all--people not here have another.

7. Oh, I don't think most people have a problem with "investigations" |
|
In fact, I think most people are desperate to see Congress perform some type oversight for a change. The "I" word, however, still makes a lot of people cringe, particularly since it's widely seen as nothing more than a hyper-partisan attack (we can thank Tom Delay for that). Saying that impeachment is on the table because Berkeley and San Francisco voted for it is a lot like saying intelligent design is on the table because Kansas voted for it.
Personally, I don't think we should be talking about impeachment until the bulk of the investigations are concluded. Talking about impeachment now makes us seem like partisans looking for retribution. Once investigations have turned up impeachable offense after impeachable offense, however, we will seem irresponsible if we don't talk about impeachment.

They're not in Ohio, true, but then neither is Manhattan, where 90% of MSM propaganda is beamed out of.

4. Nancy Pelosi is the new Speaker of the House, which means |
|
she speaks not just for her District, not just for the Democrats, but for the whole House. (Someone else will be the House Majority Leader.)
So she represents far more than the people in her own district now.

10. I think Tuesday sent a pretty clear signal |
|
that the whole House, and the electorate that sent them there, are more interested in getting rid of the criminals than in drinking tea with them in the oval office.
I hope Pelosi has enough sense to put people before Party but I don't see it happening without us -- we the people -- putting unrelenting pressure on Congress to investigate GOP crimes and not let up until we uncover all of them.
