Jack Cafferty
I haven't seen a lot of talk about his role in the election. I was wondering what everyone here thought about it. I think it played a big role. His "Broken Government" series hit such a nerve that they sent Lynne Cheney's horribly dressed ass to smack down Wolf Blitzer about it. To me, they knew that it was damaging.

In his closing remarks, he straight up told the voting public to vote every incumbent out. He said it was the only way to change things, and that is essentially what happened. It was a "throw the bums out" fever and I think that we have to give some credit to Cafferty for his rants.

1. Democrats didn't lose a seat
No it wasn't throw the bums out fever, it was throw Republicans out fever. Key difference and Republicans would really like to rewrite history on this one. Republicans were rejected, abortion ban in SD was rejected, phony Ford religiosity was rejected - minimum wage passed, stem cell research passed - this was the beginning of a sea change if we don't screw it up.

2. That's a good point...
I think you are right on the money. I hadn't thought about the Dems not losing any seats at all.

4. Regarding Lou Dobbs - war on the middle class
I saw part of his presentation at some group on C-Span.

One of the things which has stuck out: he is encouraging people to switch party affiliation to INDEPENDENT. He contends this is the only way to send BOTH parties a message to start listening to the people.

in reference to this thread - whether or not you agree with switching to independent is not relevant.

the point I'm bringing up is the renewed interest, participation and energy on the part of all of us, and by all of us I'm referring to ALL Americans.

If bush has accomplished anything of note - by his divisive administration, people have realized that we all have to participate, we can no longer take for granted that a particular party will respect our views, nor are we to be taken for granted by a party that we will blindly follow along.

Voting incumbents out is one part of the equation for making changes - the other is getting people to run for office who really represents our views.

How many elections have you held your nose while voting, or thought I'm voting for "x" because he/she is the lesser of two evils, or not voted because you saw no difference between candidates?

5. how much a role is cable?
your post points at something i'm dying to find out: what real effect does media have on voting trends, esp. media bias? surely anyone who cares about 'representative' democracy must look with horror at the bush era! the litmus test of resurrecting gov. of/by/for/ the people has to be answering this question about the media role - the democratic party comeback went down too easy, imho, and i fear what the men behind the curtain have cooked up; notice the bush gang's criminality hasn't gotten much mention....yet(?)
btw, could you slip some ratpoison into ted's next batch? lol

9. He meant every incumbent, not just the repubs.
And if the Dems fail to produce, they should all be thrown out too.

10. Cafferty & Olberman Got Guts
Unlike every other MSM 'Lican ass kisser, and George W.Bush Butt Muncher, Cafferty and Keith spoke out alone and unafraid.
And as much as I admire and thank Stephen Colbert for his "truthy" performance that night in the Chimp's presence, and John Stewart's ability to dismantle the Republican spin machine, it was still considered satire; But, K.O. and J.C. were sincerly serious night after night, long before it became "fashionable" to do so, like it will become now that the lame duck president is quacking.
