Why is it the republicans are making such a big "to do" about the fact that the democratic leaders in congress say they will conduct oversight investigations?

If this administration has done nothing wrong, one would think that they would welcome the review.

Isn't it the conservatives around the nation that have been telling us that we shouldn't be concerned with the wire tappings ordered by the administration if we have done nothing wrong?

Isn't it the conservatives around the nation that have been telling us that we shouldn't be bothered by the loss of rights of others, namely those detained for years because they could be, might be, it's possible that they are terrorists?

I mean, it's not like the investigations would be impeding anyone's rights or circumvent the Constitution and/or the Geneva Convention. And it's not like new laws would have to be written that provide for the investigations and review or that congress would be setting any precedents by conducting them.

So I say to the republicans and the administration, if you have done nothing wrong, why don't you just stand up to those nosy congressional leaders and tell them "bring it on"? Why don't you welcome the investigations and cooperate to the fullest, after all, if you have done everything above board and within the law, you have nothing to fear.

1. This is the time for bipartisanship.....
We ask the questions, you answer them.

You'd think they'd welcome the opportunity to bring their "accomplishments" into the limelight. I say full speed ahead, Mr. Cheney!

We are investigating the failures to prevent similar problems in the future.

As to how they frame theirs, I can't blame them for trying to head off investigations, they don't want to end up in jail.

Asking that the system of checks and balances as set up by our founding fathers be put into play. This has nothing to do with who is in the white house, which party. It has everything to do with the oversight that was contemplated when the founding fathers established our system of government.

It is about expecting Congress to do it's job, to uphold their oaths of office.

The future I am concerned with is the immediate future of this nation, not who has the power in '08. If laws have been broken, if cronism has trumped our rights and empted our coffers, then we need to find the problems and fix them and prosecute those that broke the laws, if any were broken.

I'm concerned about our immediate future in terms of our relationship with the rest of the world, our safety at home and the safety of our troops. If mismanagement, if abuse of power has hampered or damaged any of those, then that needs to be discovered and the damage repaired.

So again, if this administration has nothing to fear, if they have done everything right, then they should welcome any and all investigations.

9. Isn't that what they said about...
warrentless wiretapping? If they've done nothing wrong then there isn't anything to worry about, right?

10. Exactly
If they have nothing to hide, they shouldn't be concerned about any LEGAL investigations and the fact that Congress is actually doing it's job.

It only makes sense, don't ya think.
