Vegan stays vegan due to Democratic victory.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/07/AR2006110700572.html

Fred Grandy is feeling so bad about his team's chances that he laid down this challenge on his WMAL-AM morning radio show: If the GOP keeps the House, he'll eat a cheeseburger.

Grandy, you see, is a vegan. Seven or eight years ago, the former Republican congressman from Iowa (and before that, yes, Gopher on "The Love Boat") tried the no-meat, no-dairy, no-eggs diet at his wife's urging. "I lost weight, I felt better," he said, and since then he hasn't eaten anything "with a face or a mother."

So it's a sign of his utter lack of confidence in his party's fortunes today that he promised co-host Andy Parks to eat a cheeseburger on-air should the GOP prevail...

Is Grandy the most prominent vegan Republican in America? "I may be the only vegan Republican."

I found this through a VegSource message-board.

1. Vegan Republicans
One of the right-wing Libertarian "cypherpunks" on Extropians-list was a vegan, and let everybody know about it as often as they could stand it.

This was a couple years ago (late 1990s) but I assume he's still eschewing meat, eggs, milk, and human flesh.

7. It's where the Extropians® hung out
In the days before IRC/chat.

The Extropians® believe in guns, "free enterprise", life extension, uploading the human brain into supercomputers, and taking large amounts of vitamins and so-called smart drugs.

And, yes, it's a registered trademark, like Coke®, Gore-Tex®, and Billy Joel®.

2. Well, that brings the vegan Republican count to two.
There's one on VF, and I know it's not the same person because she's female.

6. I *knew* I recognized your screenname from VS.
I just made my first post there since 2004--I used to be a Pub regular many moons ago. Wow, there are still lots of folks there I remember!

I sort of stopped going there when the ad format got too much for my old computer to handle.
