Stop all the impeachment talk--it ain't gonna happen!
There are not 67 votes to impeach no matter how you slice it. And we will shoot ourselves in the foot. The people know he lied. They want oversight. They want checks and balances. They do not want impeachment.

Do I think he deserves it?

Hell, yeah.

Do DUers think he deserves it?

Hell yeah.

Is it going to happen?

Nope.

I want the new House and Senate to provide oversight. I wnat them to check the executive branch. I want them to demand accountability. Stop no-bid contracts. Restore habeas corpus. Eliminate signing statements. Restore the need for warrants for wiretapping. on and on and on.

I don't want them to squander the majority over impeachment.

Flame away!

1. No Impeachment means Democrat losses in 2008
Conyers Toes Party Line: No Impeachment
Something Is Extremely 'Rotten In The State Of Denmark'

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
Friday, November 10, 2006

The latest Democrat "saviour" to flip flop 180 degrees in light of their victory is Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich. Presumed to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in January, Conyers today said that impeachment of President Bush "is off the table."

"In this campaign, there was an orchestrated right-wing effort to distort my position on impeachment," Conyers said in a statement released by his Judiciary Committee spokesman. "The incoming speaker (Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.) has said that impeachment is off the table. I am in total agreement with her on this issue: Impeachment is off the table."

2. No flames, just facts
Impeachment doesn't require 67 votes, just a simple majority of the House. www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2686286&mesg_id=2689370

4. You are correct. But then it goes to the Senate and requires 67 votes to convict.
Why impeach if you're not willing to go the full measure. Everyone with sense knows he lied. Even if we convict, 30 % will never agree that he did. And I damn sure don't want hime to be seen as any kind of victim or a tragic hero. Let him whither on the vine as a freakin lame duck.

21. Clinton was impeached without conviction, on something relatively stupid...
and it greatly benefitted the Republicans in 2000, leading to a trifecta!

3. Correct
I keep telling everyone. There are not enough votes. You know that republican congress and most are still there that rubber stamped everything bush did are not going to impeach him. I think Conyers is 100 per cent correct in INVESTIGATING THE DEVIL OUT OF THIS ADMINISTRATION.

Yeah, they need a 2/3 majority to impeach.
They may have it in 2008 if we play our cards
right and take all and the WH in '08! ;)

Right now? Raise the minimum wage.
Investigate Iraq...bring the troops home, investigate fraud, no bid contracts,
war profiteering, repeal the tax cuts, serve subpoena's; healthcare for all Americans;
Repeal No Child Left Behind; put the brakes on out-sourcing; return habeus corpus;

and the beat goes on and on and on....there's a LOT of things we need to do NOW!!!!!

Impeachment all in good time.... ;)

I want a Democratic President in '08.... A REAL ONE! No DINO's!!!

I want us to have full control of the house and senate!

Revenge is best served cold... hit them where it counts...for now.

And the shit's going to hit the fan when Waxman gets in there...

The fun is 'just' beginning! ;)

Have some patience people! :woohoo:

15. YES! We will take it ALL in 2008!!!
:kick:

We the People need to scream "IMPEACHMENT NOW!" so that our representatives will know we that back them.

All practical measures and protocol, of course, will be handled by the professionals we just elected. We the People must continue to demand and command them to do our will.

CRACK THAT WHIP!!! BRING HOME THE TROOPS!!!

8. Be reasonable.
Saying absolutely no to impeachment is just as wrong as those crying to start impeachment in January.

Like you, I'd like to see it happen. And like you, I don't think it will. But I will not say that it won't happen.

A lot of things can happen after January. If investigations are launched, and nobody doubts that, revelations of those investigations could turn Chimp's already fragile support into an overwhelming call for the ultimate of accountability--impeach and remove. If that happens, events may overtake matters and what many are saying cannot happen *will* happen.

The goal of us DUers should be to keep pushing for these investigations and let things happen naturally. I suspect that if impeachment is in the cards, we won't have long to wait.

But I am not calling for impeachment yet, for reasons which now are altogether obvious.

9. Investigation Will Lead to Impeachment
Once everyone knows what they did, they will resign or be impeached.
That's the way it worked with Nixon.
We didn't have 67 Democrats in the Senate then either.
The Repiglicans will turn on Bush**Cheney in the end, just as they did with Nixon.

PUSH IMPEACHMENT-WE DON'T WANT THE REST OF THE WORLD TO THINK WE CAN'T DEAL WITH ONE OF OUR OWN!
THIS IS THE TIME TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE ARE DECENT PEOPLE WHO WON'T STAND FOR CORRUPTION.
WE SET A HIGHER STANDARD THAN THAT FOR OUR ELECTED OFFICALS.
NOT ONLY ARE WE IN A QUAGMIRE,AND CHASING LIES THAT GOT US THERE. WE HAVE RAN A DEBT TO OUR NATIONAL BUDGET THAT WILL TAKE SWEAT AND LABOR FOR YEARS TO OVERCOME.
THE MAN IS A LIAR,A WASTREL,INCOMPETENT ETC ETC. AND THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD KNOW IT.IF HE HAD ONE OUNCE OF DECENTCY IN HIM HE WOULD RESIGN;SINCE HE WON'T LETS THROW HIM OUT OF OFFICE!
IT WON'T BRING BACK OUR BOYS IN CONFLICT OR ALL THOSE INOCENT CHILDREN IN IRAQ; BUT IT

12. Impeaching Bush would sthe right-wing's boasting that Clinton impeachment showed he was corrupt.
Besides, Republicans have unsuccessfully impeached TWO presidents while Democrats have never impeached even one.

It's our turn.

That's as good a reason for unsuccessfully impeaching the president as we need.

17. As unpopular as Bush is, I think it would be career suicide to not pursue
impeachment.

The Democratic Congress will have to do its checks and balances, it's required by law. It is a function of their job. If those checks and balances unearth questionable activities, an investigation will have to be launched. And if that investigation uncovers illegal acts, the perpetrators must be prosecuted. That's the way it works.

The Dems will not stay in power for long doing the same crap the GOP did. People said CORRUPTION was a major concern in exit polls. The Dems are going to be expected to clean it up, that's part of the reason they are in power.

31. "We " "Them"
Who's 'them"?
Who's "we"?

In an earlier post, you say : investigation " would really be a big distraction from the things that need to be done. Also the country is pretty evenly divided between left and right that it may drive enough to the right to ruin our chances for 2008."

Kind of hard to do impeachment without investigation. Are you still making up your mind?
, or have you switched bait?

26. I agree. That's why I posted the question: Do we have the votes?
I doubt if we do. And I doubt if 2 years will really be enough to bother with.

But if there are political considerations, such as Poppy wants to invade Iran, and he's filling the cabinet with the old iran/contra thugs, then, it is necessary to impeach.

So, let's hope the Dems get right to town with the investigations and have the balls to yell and scream.

I mean, really. I"m not pushing for impeachment immediately, but c'mon, he's committed felonies and outing plame alone is worthy of hanging.

I'm rather tired of everyone telling us NOT to impeachment, when the ONLY reason given is that it'll rock the boat.
So far, no one has argued his crimes are not worthy of impeachment.

so....if he's guilty of impeachable offense, I say go big or go home. That's what impeachment is there FOR. Its not for political expediency, it's in fact to deal with those who ABUSE POWER. got it?

You don't know that! Gee whiz!

Like somebody mentioned above, the Democrats didn't have a 67 vote margin when Nixon was in office either, but the investigations eventually lead to many Republicans joining in and eventually they told Nixon it was time to leave.

You never know something until you try.
