CAIRO, Egypt -- The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq claimed in a new tape released Friday that his group had mobilized 12,000 fighters and was winning the war in Iraq faster than expected.
A man who identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir taunted President Bush in the audio tape, challenging him to keep American troops in the country because the fighters had not shed "enough of your blood."

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A purported audio recording by the leader of Iraq's al Qaeda wing gloated over the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, as a top U.S. general said the military was preparing to recommend strategy changes.
Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, said in the recording posted on the Internet on Friday that the group had 12,000 armed fighters and 10,000 others waiting to be equipped to fight U.S. troops in Iraq.

Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, the purported successor of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, is in an Egyptian prison and not Iraq, a lawyer has claimed.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Masri al-Yawm has quoted Mamduh Ismail as saying he met al-Muhajir, also known as Sharif Hazaa, or Abu Ayub al-Masri, in Tura prison in Cairo, where he has been held for seven years.
"Sharif Hazaa
is in Tura prison, and I met him two days ago while I was visiting some of my clients," Ismail, a lawyer known for defending Islamist groups, told the newspaper.

Report: Head of Qaeda in Iraq said to be in Egyptian prison
Egyptian newspaper Al-Masri al-Yawm is reporting that Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, reported successor to of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as head of al Qaeda in Iraq, has been spotted in an Egyptian prison.
According to Mamduh Ismail, an attorney for Islamist groups, al-Muhajir has been in Tura prison in Egypt for the past seven years. "I met him two days ago while I was visiting some of my clients," the lawyer claims.
