Need help filing complaints against WalMart.
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 07:41 PM by EdwardM
I worked at WalMart about a month ago. My supervisor showed me this really stupid anti union video talking about how bad unions are. After the video she commanded me, that if I were to see an union official, I was not to talk to him and report him or her to a manager. She did not just recommend I do that. She commanded me to. I know that this is illegal under Norris Laguardia-Act of 1932. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norris-LaGuardia_Act So basically they are breaking the law at my local Wal-Mart to stop unions from forming.

Another thing I noticed was that in the break room there was a non smoking sign. They did not enforce it. Everyone smoked in it. They made me do stupid tests for about 6 hours in that room on a computer during orientations. I hated it as I am a non smoker.

One more thing, I am autistic. I had a falling out with the manager because he listened in on one of my personal calls I had when I was off the clock so I quit. I was too afraid to call them to tell them where to send my check so i had my mom do it. When my mom called, he started telling her my personal information about my work and my falling out with him and I did not give him permission to do so. I don't mind my mom knowing because I told her anyways, but I am afraid that he would reveal other workers personal information if I don't do something.

After about 2 weeks when my check never arrived, my mother called them and asked if they had sent my check. They told her that I had to come in and sign some sort of discharge papers before I could have my check.

Anyways my questions are, I don't know where to complain. I don't want to let Walmart get away with this crap. I know the union deal was illegal, but I don't know what government organization I would complain to. I don't know if the smoking in the non smoking or them revealing personal information to my mom was illegal, but if it was, I want to know where I should go to launch a complaint. I also want to know if it is legal for them to hold paychecks until people come in to sign discharge papers and who I should complain to if it is illegal. Please help me. Thanks

3. Never thought of them.
I don't really have any grounds to sue, because I don't have any real proof of any of this, but hopefully they can show me the right place to complain.

4. Well , if you need more evidence - try local TV station - they
might be willing to do a sting.

2. Call your Senator or Congressional Representative
If nothing else, they can point you in the right direction. Even better, if they think this is a violation of federal law, they might put their office's weight on your complaint should anything come of it. No guarantees of course, but give 'em a ring.

5. What state are you in?
You need to contact your state Bureau of Labor and Industry, there are some serious violations here and they will let you speak to their lawyer (no charge to you). They will represent you and demand action. Believe me, they DO get results!

Good Luck!
