1. A ham sandwich would be better than one of Shrub's nominee's |
Look, the purpose of a Shrub Pentagon nominee is to kill as many people as possible, while ripping off as much taxpayer money as possible

2. I think a vast majority of Americans, if they even know that we |
are getting a new SecDef, think that Bill Gates just got nominated.

3. From who's perspective? |
As much as I agree with you, it's pure fantasy to think Shrub would have put in anyone but one of the his dad's "go to men." Gates, Baker, etc. have made careers out of fixing Bush family mistakes and problems.

4. Of course he would, but you really think Poppy would ask him? |
Gates is clearly Poppy's choice for the job, as the old man and his team (Baker,Gates, etc.) are trying to save the Bush Crime Family legacy and their control of the Republican party, which they have managed to hold onto since World War II.
On the other hand, Gary Hart is the guy who should have beaten Poppy in 1988. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Poppy helped engineer the "Monkey Business" that was Hart's downfall. Especially since Donna Rice later emerged as a Republican party anti-porn activist.

5. Carl Levin should suggest," Mr President it would go a long way in |
healing deep wounds in this country if you would nominate someone as qualified as Gary Hart to replace Donald Rumsfeld as a bonus you would benefit greatly from his stature with the Democratic party"

7. Hart is a strong supporter of Kerry's so no way would Bush bring him in. |
Kerry would have tapped Hart for DoD, Sec of State or Homeland Security, for sure - whichever post he wanted to serve in - my guess is Homeland Security, since he fathered the HartRudman Report on Global Terror that was handed to Bush late Jan, 2001.

is one of the smartest, most decent individuals in this country. He would be looking to end the US occupation of Iraq. Gates is intelligent, but not decent. He is being brought in to make the extended occupation more acceptable to the US public.
