Dem's should investigate Jefferson (D) in Louisiana.
Just because he is a Democrat doesn't mean we should lay off him. We should nail ANYONE who may be breaking the law.

Speaking of Jefferson, is their now a runoff between him and the second highest vote getter in that race?

1. Were there actually TWO Democratic candidates named Carter?
Can you tell us about the one that made the runoff?

3. Yeah, We Should
we are trying to claim the moral high ground and we don't need this guy dragging us down.

I know, I know, he hasn't been convicted. Yeah, isn't that what all of Abramoff's Repub buddies said (about themselves and each other, not about Abramoff)? I understand sometimes charges are done as political assasinations, but there must be a balance between sufficient evidence for the party to disassociate themselves with some one even if not enough for a conviction.

Of course, what options does the party have other than asking him to resign? If he refuses, maybe they can refuse to offer financial and/or logistical support, maybe we can endorse a Democratic opponent in a primary - but if Jefferson wants to hang on, what options do we have?

4. There IS a run off election now
Daily KOS had a call to action article on this subject yesterday. The second place winner was actually the candidate that was endorsed by the local Democratic party, instead of the seated incumbent.

Because the winner had less than 50% of the vote, there will be an automatic run-off between the top two vote getters. We SHOULD get behind this run-off race and support the candidate endorsed by the local Democratic party over Jefferson.

For those that might not remember, Jefferson was the Congressman who caused Hastert and the other leaders in Congress to through a fit when the FBI raided his offices. The FBI had found $100,000 in bribe money that he had hidden in his freezer at his house. (well, "supposedly" bribe money because I guess he hasnt been convicted in court for taking bribes yet).

This is a crooked congressman, and what he has done is worse than anything any Republican has done. The crooked Republicans are a stain on Congress, and their own party. THIS gentleman is a stain not only on Congress, but on OUR party as well. He is crooked and a Democrat. We CANNOT let this man win, and continue to be a stain on the Democratic party.

If we cant clean up our own political party, then we cant clean up Congress. Its that simple. It starts right here, with this run-off election. We need to organize the phone banks and the ground crews to get the vote out to help the Democratic candidate endorsed by the local party beat the crooked Democratic candidate who has stained the honor of the Democratic party.

We won the nationwide election. Lets show the country and the world that they made the right choice by taking out the trash in our own party before we get to take the trash out in the rest of the government.

10. I agree, considering he only got 30% of the vote...
surely the people who voted for all the other challengers will get behind the 2nd highest vote-getter to send the incumbent a message, and send him home.

6. criminal investigation has priority
I don't think that the Justice officials preparing a criminal case against him would appreciate a parallel investigation. It would be regarded as muddying the waters, perhaps even previewing evidence against him to his ultimate advantage. Criminal prosecutors do not like these kinds of things. What we have to do is to keep our fingers out of it and let the professional do what they do very well.

7. The Dems need to censure him and expel him from Congress.
They must show that they're a party that's willing to hold anybody accountable regardless of party affiliation.

9. Yes, there will be a runoff!
Yes, there will be a runoff on Saturday, 9 December 2006 between incumbent Rep. William Jefferson (D) and second-place finisher Karen Carter (D), a state Representative.

As posted above, Mr. Jefferson polled 30% of votes cast vs. 22% for Ms. Carter. I expect those that voted for other candidates to by and large support Carter in the run-off.

Karen Carter's campaign website may be found here: http://www.karencarterforcongress.com/

Hope this helps! :)
