Anyone watching SNL?

They did an opening sketch with someone playing Nancy Pelosi. The premise was that she was pledging, contrary to public belief, that her term presiding over the House would not be marked by "San Francisco values". Then, of course, she went into digressions about S&M sex, smoking pot, Wiccan cults, and so forth.

It wasn't that funny, but it wasn't at all offensive either. (Basically it was a satire on Republican warnings of the tragedy that would befall America if Pelosi became Speaker) There's no conservative slant at SNL (hell, Alec Baldwin was hosting tonight) but it did remind me that now that we're in control of congress, everyone from Jon Stewart and Colbert to Conan and Weekend Update will be making fun of Democrats instead of the GOP. Funny how I'm still not quite used to that.

SNL does a lot of satire.

6. Yup
I moved cross-country (hence the name) and had no one to sweat out the results with. It wasn't all that coincidental.

4. Tonight's SNL is one of the worst, ever
Not funny at all, and I did find the Pelosi skit offensive.

8. How so?
Do you really think the writing staff at SNL thinks like that? It was a satire upon the Republican perception of "San Francisco values." Too exaggerated for anyone to take seriously.

I agree about the lack of funniness, though.

20. I loved that sketch
The whole idea of Steve Martin trying to "off" Baldwin for breaking his hosting record
was hilarious.

Baldwin as Saddam was funny, too.

7. I laughed a couple times at the over-the-top absurdity.
Anyway, was checking in to see any comments on the "cameo" sketch with Steve Martin, Martin Short and Paul McCartney. Sir Paul did not look good i.e. bad plastic. At least that's what it looked like to me.

That was Kristen Wiig playing Nancy Pelosi. She's awesome, particularly when she does the Target cashier.
The show tonight has had cameos with Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Paul McCartney.
I'm enjoying it.
Edited to add Oh My God, there's a cameo now with the real Tony Bennett while Alec Baldwin is doing a skit of him. Holy Cow. The man looks terrific for being 80 years old!

10. They will
Get used to it. :)
Also, the majority of the time will still be spent making fun of Bush, so we're not exactly prime targets yet.

11. Have to get used to that
SNL, The Daily Show, Olbermann. Now that we are the "ruling party" shots will be directed at our direction. Goes with the territory.

It's just that there's more things Republicans do to create easier targets.

21. I loved the opening sketch...
Just thinking of her say "Palomino" still makes me giggle (I prefer 'red' myself'...). I loved the way she would occasionally go into "crazy-eye" mode and back without skipping a beat.

There were cameos galore... Is it just me, but was Baldwin genuinely surprised to see Sir Paul McCartney?

The music didn't suck, and we got a duet with Bennet and Christine... though he seemed a little lost in that number... made me sad to think that age is catching up to him.

Probably the best episode this season.
