The media doesn't know what side to butter its bread on.
This weekend the cable shows have pretty much sounded like they are trying to through the Rs a life line and knock the Dems down a peg. They can't quite let go of the Rs and focus on possible new approaches to policy. They haven't let the campaign crap go--that's for sure.

They are flailing around looking for something to latch onto. I don't think they've read this mandate correctly.

2. They are as out of touch as the Republicans. They had a neat
little beltway thing going that was untouched by the unwashed masses. Lots of parties, lots of money, lots of fun. How dare the rest of America intrude?

3. The mandate of the media doesn't come from the electorate,
nor from the viewers. Their job is to mold public opinion, not to express it. To mold it in specific ways, namely the ways that their owners want it molded. Pro-Capitalist, pro-Republican, unthinking, unreflective, and uncomprehending.

4. Hence their confusion now.
I'm rather enjoying their befuddlement. I hope they stay befuddled for a while because it gives us a fighting chance for change.

I want the bloggers to keep going at it too. They really don't know how to deal with the blogs or the internet. Kurtz whales away every week on trying to discount the blogs over broadcast, cable, and print media. It is becoming very evident that many of them take their cues and sometimes stories from the internet. The traditional media formats no longer investigate and report news, for certain. They simply amplify what they chose.

5. The news industry is kinda like the food industry.
In the old days, for food and for news, you had to have a lot of hunters & gatherers in order to maintain an adequate supply. These days we've gotten more efficient and industrialized. Both food and news are now manufactured, and you don't need so many workers to provide the supply.
