New Committee Chairs
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 10:47 AM by Glenda
This must be posted elsewhere, but here is what the BBC says will likely be the new committee chairs

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6135880.stm

TOM LANTOS, CHAIRMAN, HOUSE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Mr Lantos has promised a more co-operative approach to international relations and has said he will push for direct talks with North Korea and Iran on their nuclear programmes.

CHARLES RANGEL, CHAIRMAN, HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE

Mr Rangel is expected to push for more emphasis on environmental and labour issues in trade agreements.
He wants to simplify the tax code to eventually repeal Bush administration tax cuts for the very wealthy.

JOHN CONYERS, CHAIRMAN, HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

The Democrat is expected to move quickly against Mr Bush's domestic wiretapping programme, which Mr Conyers has called illegal and unconstitutional. And he may re-open recent legislation authorising military tribunals for detainees of the war on terror.

JOE BIDEN, CHAIRMAN, SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE

His plan involves splitting Iraq into autonomous regions and withdrawing US forces.

CARL LEVIN, CHAIRMAN, SENATE ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE

Mr Levin is considered likely to hold hearings into the conduct of the war in Iraq.

ROBERT BYRD, CHAIRMAN, SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE

Another outspoken critic of the Iraq war, he would be in charge of approving the funds that Mr Bush requests for the conflict.

2. Add...
Dave Obey of Wisconsin as Chairman of the House Appropriations committee...

On election eve, our less-than-brilliant Public Radio host interviewed Obey and asked him (since he knew he would be appropriations Chairman) "How much more money will Wisconsin get?"

Obey said we've got other priorities...reduce deficit, health care, war spending etc., etc.

I'm anxious to see if Dave rejects "pork" and focuses on the much larger, larger National Picture.

I've known Dave since '75 or '76. He's bullheaded and committed to his (our) ideals. He'll do just great I think.

3. Jay Rockefeller will chair the Senate Intelligence Committee
Buh bye, Pat Roberts and his roadblocking of all investigation into the Bush administration's behavior in the runup to the invasion of Iraq. Hello at last to the publication of the remaining three chapters of the Phase II investigation! Hooray for Jay!!

Watch and see, this will be the first serious bombshell in our exposure of the Bush junta's crimes.
