Dixie Chicks rocked Tacoma/Seattle last night! |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 12:49 PM by paxmusa
They gave a GREAT concert! They walked on stage to "Hail to the Chief"--the crowd went crazy. They also showed, on the big screen, the trailer to "Shut Up and Sing" with a huge crowd reaction.
When they sang "Not Ready To Make Nice" the crowd went ballistic--stomping and roaring afterward--there were close-ups of the Chicks on the big screen and you could tell by their faces that they were completely blown away by the crowd's response.
Natalie got huge yells and applause when she said something to the effect of "Rumsfeld's gone, now we just have two more years and the rest of the dummies will be gone."
One of the best concerts I've been to in a long time and this was my 14 year old daughter's first concert! What great female role models!
Were any other Seattle area DUer's there?

I find a lot of the Dixie Chicks tunes very annoying, but it's not hard to see that they are playing the political theme all the way.. Shut up and play your tunes for your fans, don't try to get new fans by any other means than playing your music. Some people like the Chicks because of their political views.. that's not how they started their band. If they have issues they should put them to use outside the band structure, not feed it to people during their concerts.

I dont give a shit about Toby Keith, Alexander Keith makes good beer though. I just don't see the reason for them to force feed their fans their views.. If you don't wnat crap then don't go see their documentary, but if someone pays to go see their concert they shouldn't have to hear/see that crap.

not a freeper, I come to this site a lot to read about the shit that's going down. I'm not even a US citizen so in the end it doesn't bother me. I'm happy for the Dixie Chicks, they got a lot of shit when they said that crap they said, but play your tunes at yer show.. Like buddy said that was there they only said a line or 2 that was political, but it came off as they were trying to play it up.

30. If you knew their music, you would know that their recent hits ARE |
|
political, "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" for example, and their fans LIKE it. If you don't like it then don't go to their concerts, it really is as simple as that.
I did see you are Canadian, as am I, so how do you feel about Canadian musicians like Neil Young, whose music is very political as well, do you feel he should stay away from politics in his lyrics and his political views and just shut up and sing?
BTW, how is harper doing in the polls lately? It's a good thing he isn't a singer, eh!

heheh, well I don't relly care for Mr. Young. His music isn't all political and that's not how he got going, the Chicks already had a fanbase before all this shit as well. Don't use it to sell records, if you have a few tunes that are political and people like them all the better, but don't abuse those few tunes my making a spectacle of them and using it to forward your career.

This so called "shit" and "crap" run the world, make wars, break and shape our lives.
If it's all just "shit" and "crap" why do you hang out on a political board?

So that seems to contradict your view that they need to cease with the political tone and just sing like they used to. Seems like you're the one with the issues.... The Dixie Chicks have been totally vindicated! Let their fans rejoice and celebrate with them at their concerts.

BECAUSE of their views AND their music? That they go to support them having the RIGHT to express their views?
Why is it that I would bet you felt the same way about Michael J Fox expressing his views during the recent US election, hmmmm, go figure.

Sure the fans go to their concerts, but they go for the music. I taught my daughter how to play "travelling soldier" on the guitar yesterday, I have nothing against them, I kinda blew it out of proportion but it seemd like people were happier to hear them talk about politics more than hearing their tunes.

Why do you think a lot of their fans love them? I didn't bother with the Chicks until they expressed their views. They showed a lot of courage. More courage than those who sent them anonymous death threats and such.
People who don't want to hear what they have to say aren't going to their concerts anyway. Nobody got up and walked out.

They were talented singers/musicians, and since I'm not a country music fan, why should I bother paying attention to them?
One innocuous statement caused the right wing to hyperventilate in outrage. That always makes me pay attention. Censorship, for crying out loud, stomping on CD's. Seriously, WTF?
FWIW, I watched a video of their concert and I thought "Traveling Soldier" was outstanding. I just don't care for country music generally because I prefer blues and jazz.
That's all I've got to say on this matter. I don't care to hijack this thread.

I have listened to them before the "controversy" and after. I enjoyed the music before, but I love the music now.
For me, music with a message is what it's all about. After all, a great beat can only get you so far since disco died. If the music doesn't "speak to you", why bother listening at all? Musicians have been using music to send a message since the first drum beat rang out in the world.
Get over yourself and find some new talking points. Republican talking points are so last year!

if you were a fan before it shouldn't matter what they are talking about now.. If the music is good that's all that matters right? My girlfriend is a huge country fan, that's how I know their music. I can play a lot of their tunes on guitar becaue we had a female singer for a few years and learned a lot of female country tunes.. Out of the 4 or 5 we played I didn't get any political meaning from them at all. the new CD isn't all about politics, even not ready to make nice can be seen as a non-political tune to people that haven't been following the whole thing.

politics and their personal views out of it. No thank you to that. I am a believer that art is one of the vehicles for political/social expression and the subsequent change that can follow.
So, what songwriters do you admire? Which ones keep all of their views out of their music?
I believe Barry Manilow is playing at the Tacoma Dome next. You might really enjoy that show.

touch on political themes and can give me the chills with the strength and depth of their message. One of the reasons I like the Dixie Chicks now more than ever is because their music has real heart and soul in it since they began expressing their controversial opinions. Who is anyone to say they shouldn't be singing that way and that we shouldn't be enjoying it? I thought this was a "free" country. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

If you don't like it don't listen to it. Pretty simple. I just don't like how people focus on how the political part of it.. They have tons of tunes, good ones too, that aren't all about their tribulations, so why focus on the one that is about that or make it a big deal at their show.

So, which is it? They either have tons of good tunes, or most of their songs are annoying. Can't have it both ways, you know.
And why shouldn't they sing about their tribulations? That's as honest a subject for a song as heartbreak or anything else.
Oh, one more thing....you might want to actually LISTEN to their newest album, because most of the songs have nothing whatsoever to do with politics. But hey, don't let the truth get in the way of your bullshit argument.

I miss their music since the bushtapo pressured the music industry to pull their stuff.
Bruce Springstien said that it was not public outcry that took the chicks off the air, it was merely the fact that rupert mur-dick owns so much media. It was a clear channel corporate response to the intrests of the bushtapo that made it all happen.

Our Cinemark in the Dallas area has shown previews but it's not showing here yet. It's going to be so much cooler watching this move given the recent Election Day results.

a few months back... there was such passion in the crowd... the guys made a good political message show out of it and there were just massive waves of enthusiasm. It was a terrific, memorable show.
