Don't let this happen to you.

I pledge that as we enter this highly partisan time of primaries and lining up behind potential candidates, that although I may express disagreement or displeasure at various candidates that are not mine, I will not bash. I will attempt, though I'm sure I will not always succeed, to consider thoughtfully each candidate and their words, and treat them fairly. I will not name-call. I will not distort. I will not slant their words. I will strive to keep what they say in context.

God forbid we should give ammo to the other side like we did in 2004. I don't want the Republicans being able to pick up the primary playbook and use it to defeat the man or woman we ultimately choose to represent us in 2008.

I will not eat my own. I will dine on tasty elephant instead.

Will you take that pledge with me?

1. I agree we should stop the infighting and look for the positive in
all Democrats and if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all.

2. But people do have a right to be critical. I'm only asking for civility
in our disagreements. There's criticism, and then there's bashing. Not everyone understands the difference.

3. I'll take the pledge.
Grieves me so much to see Dems bashing Dems...but I don't hold out much hope. I've been here since the beginning of DU though my posts don't reflect it...and the primary season last time nearly made me not read anything but late-breaking news headlines.

The good news, though, is our ability to unite and come together in the final crunch. That has also been proven.

4. it's ok that dems are not in lockstep . . .
but i agree that we should not eat our own. it's bad enough that the rw denigrates our positions and unity. constructive criticism is good, bashing is bad.

however, we, the people, cannot let our guard down ever again. k-k-k-karl may well be back in 2008.

5. Indeed, and I don't want Rove to be able to pick up where we've left off
Naive I suppose, and it's gonna be ugly out there with such a wide open field of candidates on both sides. If we tear apart our candidates, I can only hope the Republicans do the same on the other side.

But it is said that Rove had a whole playbook to pull out for Kerry, part of it from the attacks on him from fellow Dems in the primaries. We don't need to distort each others positions to gain political ground (You hear me out there, Carville!)
