I am increasingly convinced that a McCain Candidacy might be a mortal woundto the GOP coolition of fundies, neo-cons and fiscal consrvatives.

Given that McCain had previously alienated the fundies back in 2000 it is doubtful that they would come flocking back to him in early primaries if someone like Brownback runs. Likewise because of positions McCain had taken on torture and immigration. he has not endeared imself to the "war on terra" crowd either. Notheless his front-runner status makes him the first choice by about 1/3 of the GOP.

His entry has the effect of pushing two imporptant wings of the party in vsatly different directions.: into th arems of the idealogues... I suspect that McCain might ultimately win the nomination but not without fracturing the base. A McCain nomination is going to piss the Fundies off. ANd if he appears to kowtow to them with the VP nod...He is going to hear about it from moderate in his own party.

6. If Howard Dean's is etting ready to run he will be stepping down
from the DNC in the next couple of months. You can't run for the nomination and also run the party. You can't start raising money in a compertive market and run the party.

4. John McCain would probably be the worst nominee out of all the potential republicans.
He has probably been the biggest hawk in the Iraq war. And now he wants 100,000 more troops. If he is the one who makes it out of the primaries, he will be easy to squash. Also, he does something to alienate the moderates everysingle day.I just don't see any republicans winning in 08. Well, maybe Pat Buchanon if he ran, but that would be scary.
