Your dream President/Cabinet in 2009? |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 07:00 PM by Alexander
Not only am I asking which candidate you prefer, and which VP he/she should run with, but also Cabinet and secretary positions.
I liked Rosco T.'s suggestions so much, I decided to edit my list. I kept both my pre- and post-edit suggestions, although at the moment I prefer the ones post-edit.
Also, I'm thinking strategy here. A fair criticism is that there aren't enough women on the list - I do this because the ones I'd prefer wouldn't be strategically the best choice right now. I'd love to see Boxer, Napolitano, Granholm and Waters in Cabinet-level positions some day - but in 2009, I think it'd be a bad idea strategically. We need every last Senate and House seat, and I think most of the best candidates would be better for us if they ran for the Senate or kept their increasingly-powerful House seat.
Here's mine:
President Of The United States: Al Gore
Vice-President Of The United States: Russ Feingold
Secretary Of State: John Kerry
Secretary Of Treasury: Robert Reich
Secretary Of Defense: Wesley Clark
Attorney General Of The United States: John Edwards
Secretary Of Interior: Brian Schweitzer
Secretary Of Agriculture: Tom Harkin
Secretary Of Commerce: Jon Corzine
Secretary Of Labor: Richard Gephardt
Secretary Of Health & Human Services: Gavin Newsom
Secretary Of Education: Kathleen Sebelius
Secretary Of Housing & Urban Development: Antonio Villaraigosa
Secretary Of Transportation: Federico Peña
Secretary Of Energy: Jerry McNerney
Secretary Of Veterans' Affairs: Max Cleland
Secretary Of Homeland Security: Ramsey Clarke, if not eliminated altogether
Others (optional)
Press Secretary: Pre-EDIT: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Post-EDIT: Keith Olbermann
Chairman Of Federal Reserve: Robert Rubin
Representative To The United Nations: Bill Clinton
Securities And Exchange Commission Chairman: Paul Sarbanes
Post-EDIT: Environmental Protection Agency: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

2. Not bad, you can make a case for both. |
|
I should probably add a couple other positions, like SCOTUS justices or whatnot. Feel free to chime in if you can think of any.

3. Not John Edwards For AG! |
|
John Edwards' strength is his charisma and compassion, the way he talks about the struggles of ordinary people.
How would that be used to its fullest in an AG role? I would rather have Feingold as AG, because at least I know he would stick up for our liberties
And RFKjr as Press Secretary? I love reading his points of view, but I cringe every time I hear him talk.

5. So....switch them? Or use different people altogether? |
|
Edwards is a damned successful lawyer, that's why I picked him.
And I agree with the other poster, perhaps RFK Jr. would be a better EPA director. Maybe a different Press Secretary?

10. I'm sure Governor Arnie would love that too |
|
That way he'd pick her Republican replacement. I'm thinking strategy here, too.

...although I still contend Bill Clinton should be our Secy of State. He'd go a long way to repairing the damage done by the Neo-cons.
Also, how about Surgeon General? Dr Howard Dean :bounce:

11. And what about the MAIN ISSUE for all voters - Corruption? |
|
You best be triple-sure that Gore would go there as president, because he sure didn't as VP with Clinton.

13. Leave the Senators in the Senate! |
|
We have worked too damn hard for those seats to risk ANY of them. Arguably, Clinton's worst cabinet appointment was Lloyd Bentsen as SecTreas; it cost us the seat (to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who is still there), and he was gone in 2 years, anyway.
VP(if not pres): Wes Clark. Instant credibility on defense issues, and the law would have to be changed to allow him to be SecDef SecState: Clinton, Joseph Wilson or Bill Richardson SecTreas: Robert Rubin. He did well for Clinton, and can keep Wall Street off of the Democrats, or Brad deLong SecDef: Max Cleland SecAgr: ???Not Harkin SecCommerce: Skinner FedReserve: Joseph Steiglitz Council of Ec Advisors: deLong
