3. Murtha.
He is more conservative than I like, but he is loyal.
He is Pelosi's choice and I think our leadership needs to be strong without any infighting.
Hoyer will not help garner support on campaign reform because he likes K Street too much. This is something we MUST get passed.

4. What has Hoyer done lately that could qualifiy as being a leader?
On a lot of the pro-corporate bills that have passed through the House in this 109th Congress (CAFTA springs to mind), Hoyer has refused to do his job as the whip.

Murtha on the other hand, when he came out against the war, he held the press conference the first day and the next day put up the bill. And it didn't contain any wishy-washy politicians' language. It read (paraphrasing at best): "The United States mission in Iraq shall be termninated immediately"

That's more my idea of leadership

11. I caught something over the weekend ...
about Murtha and Pelosi ...

It made it seem like Murtha got the greenlight from Pelosi to cut loose on Iraq this time last year ... She knew it would be best coming from him, that the freaks on the right would react by doing what they do, mass character assault on the messanger, and that both in his personality and background, that Murtha was the best person to literally be out front and take the bullets ...

That kind of impressed me, that they actually had a plan to it, outside of the fact that Murtha was just telling the country what the military was telling him, but by honor code could not say for themselves ...

THEN, I just found out that Murtha had been the campaign manager to get Pelosi into the minority leader to begin with ...

I kind of like the pair ... Murtha being the rough nosed, loyal underboss ...

5. Hoyer is tied corporation too much and don't care for that.
At least with Murtha, when he talk, everyone (MSM) listen!

7. Oh, this sounds nice...
WTH?

"Although Hoyer said Wednesday he does not intend to release lists of endorsements, a tactic that he has used in previous leadership contests, his office did distribute a press release Wednesday promoting a separate letter signed by several senior lawmakers in support of his bid."

Pros & cons, pls, or is this just smoke, anyway?

Is Murtha too "hot" for opposing this war and the Pentagon?
If the Reeps get to swiftboat successfully, we're screwn.

9. I tried to get this started yesterday. It's an important step for the party
to choose this candidate. It's as close to the influence folks have been arguing for as anything that will occur afterward.

Here's my take:

Hoyer's my state's rep

I think both men are good, committed Democrats. John, obviously, has my gratitude for the way in which he buttressed the opposition to the Iraq occupation throughout the election and, hopefully beyond. For that reason, and for my belief that he could best press the issue of re-deployment leading to withdrawal, I would choose Murtha. I believe he cares deeply about his constituents in Pa. who share most of the same concerns of the rest of the nation, economically and otherwise. I still haven't heard enough from John about all of those Defense dollars that he's taken from the military industry. I'm damn curious about that. But, I'm willing to stuff it if he'll lead our soldiers out of Iraq.

Sorry, Steny.

In the end, Jack Murtha got my vote

12. HAVA=Jack Abramoff=Bob Ney=Steny Hoyer
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 01:51 PM by Buttercup McToots
Gates was on the Board of Directors of VoteHere, a strange little company that was the biggest elections industry lobbyist for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). VoteHere spent more money than ES&S, Diebold, and Sequoia combined to help ram HAVA through. And HAVA, of course, was a bill sponsored by convicted Abramoff pal Bob Ney and K-street lobbyist buddy Steny Hoyer. HAVA put electronic voting on steroids.

14. I like Murtha though others think he is too conservative, but I think
he makes a good counter balance with Pelosi and from what I hear he and Pelosi have a better relationship than Hoyer and Pelosi.
