Obviously from our unofficial tunrout threads on DU at election day, it sounds like it was massive.

from various news reports it seems to be dependent on the region.

In some areas it was much higher than the norm for mid-term elections, in other areas it fell within the norms. And in other places it rivaled presidential election turnout.

One number I heard bandied about is a 40% turnout nationally - higher than the norm, but not all that "shocking"

it's kind of sad - using 40% turnout of REGISTERED voters - it means just a small segment of Americans are determining our direction. The percentage making such a determination is even smaller if you factor in the number of people who are eligible but NOT REGISTERED.
