Quagmire. OK to say Quagmire now.

05 Sep 2003: “Quagmire? What Quagmire?”

24 Jun 2005: “First let me say that there isn't a person at this table who agrees with you that we're in a quagmire ...”
~Donnie Rumfilled

13 Nov 2006: "Speaking before news of the attack in Basra, the SNP leader, Alex Salmond, said: "Those who are responsible for this blood-soaked quagmire now have the duty to tell us how they propose to remove our soldiers from this morass."

And the reason that we will not impeach the imperialistic idiots who caused all this: They are not idiots.

Themselves have done very well, and – though they did not have the power to steal this election – themselves still truly have the power in this country and in the world.

Still, we must resist when we can, and this last election did slow themselves down a bit.

3. Of course - Robert Gates said it in 1996
WARE: And so most Iraqis answered the President's call - 14 out of 18 provinces rose up. They expected the Americans to come across the Kuwaiti border to help them – but they didn't.

("The Gulf War": BBC1, 1996)
ROBERT GATES
US National Security Adviser
1991 Gulf War
That was the quagmire, therein laid Vietnam as far as we were concerned, because we would still be there.

WARE: Having encouraged the Iraqis to rise up, the Americans went home.
