4. Iraq when they invade Kuwait |
|
then the government of Kuwait went to the U.N. asked for help, then a military force with a U.N. mandate led by the U.S. came to the rescue.

19. Yes, as I posted, LIES. |
|
Colin Powell said he had "top secret satellite photos" showing thousands of Iraqi troops massed on the Saudi border, showing that Iraq intended to invade into Saudi. That was a total lie. Satellite photos taken at the exact same time in the exact same place showed...nothing. Miles and miles of empty sand. It never happened. It was a LIE.
The above was admitted to the following year by Powell...but it was far too late by then; some 400,000 Iraqi (and other nations) men, women and children were dead and hundreds of thousands more were wounded.
General Colin Powell; : "I think we could go to war if they invaded Saudi Arabia. I doubt if we would go to war over Kuwait."
Another lie, one which galvanized the American public's support for the 1991 Gulf War, was the horrendous story of Iraqis in Kuwaiti hospitals dumping babies out of incubators and leaving them to die on the floor. This was totally untrue, made up by the PR firm Bush41 had hired (the same PR firm Bush43 now uses).
President Bush(41) mentioned the "incubator babies" in five speeches and seven senators referred to them in speeches backing a pro-war resolution. The resolution for war passed by 5 votes.
Later, Amnesty International, who had also been duped by the testimony, admitted it had got it wrong.
It never happened. It was a LIE.
LIES are what republicans use to get their wars.

6. Of course he's more competent than his son - that's not the point. |
|
but if we are going to "appoint" someone to bail Junior out (not a bad idea for the nations sake), why his dad? Didn't we already decide as a nation that we didn't want Senior running things anymore?
I donno - just seems odd to me.

18. "We" are "appointing" no one. |

Junior has never been in charge. It has been Darth Cheney; it appears that Junior is no longer listening to Cheney but instead listening to his father.

|
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 10:23 AM by Kber
and then his dad taking over as another unelected Bush president in 2006.
I'm startin' to think these guys don't really care much for democracy.

11. This whole period is like some weird deja vu thing. |
|
George HW Bush is trying to wrap up a war with Iraq.
The economy is on a hangover from a over investment in housing and about to go into the crapper.
Clinton is about to run for President.

and yet Americans are looking for change. G.H.W. Bush, Baker, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. they just keep coming back even 14 years later. Even longer than 14 years because some go back to Nixon. When will we be rid of them.

13. Perhaps someone in our party should point this out. |
|
Instead, all I'm hearing from Dems (for example, Biden and others like him) is that Gates is a standup guy and trustworthy. Well, we've heard them say this about other * appointees, Rummy included. We did not go through this election for change to see more of the same. Poppy's people will serve to do no more than build a wall to shield the idiot son from further scrutiny.

he's unable to run, but if actuall elections don't matter anymore, why not have an illegitimate president who was really competent and at least won his elections.

16. It's too bad Weinberger died |
|
Bringing back the Secretary of Defense that Poppy pardoned in the middle of the night would have been just too, too circular.
Did I say just "pardoned in the middle of the night"? I meant to say, pardoned in the middle of the night on Christmas Weekend 1992 after Poppy had lost the election and was a lame duck and just two weeks before Weinberger would have gone on trial for Iran/contra and probably exposed the lie that Poppy was out of the loop on the planning and execution of the deal that sold arms to Iran in exchange for the release of hostages and then used the proceeds from the sale to line their own pockets and prop up the death squads in Central America.
Whew!
