Daily Reminder: "Moderates" opposed to marriage equity...
The newly discovered "moderates" that flipped this election to the Democrats are opposed to marriage equity for same sex couples. For the most part the moderates are beholden to the religious organizations that oppose same sex marriage and perpetuation of the patriarchal control of women which includes the suppression of homosexuality.

Suppression of homosexuality stems from the fundamentalist desire to control women and the roles for each gender as identified by traditional religious texts. In homosexual relationships, particularly during sex at some point one partner assumes the passive role, a role designated for women by the constructors of the bible. So traditional "values" of submissive women with men actively controlling all aspects of a woman's sexuality is required. Spun, this become as Philis Schafly called a "woman's privilege".

In controlling women, fundamentalist religions are also able to control many other aspects of society and culture and foster the persecution of all non-conforming behavior.

Discriminating against homosexuals in our society is one of the final barriers to progress that dogmatic religion has erected over the centuries.

Religion steeped in dogma is still about controlling society. Centuries ago it may have been advantageous for human survival. In our rapidly changing technological society, a religion that forces one belief system over another and does not recognize the individual's right to self determination and religious freedom is detrimental to the continued ascension of humanity.

This has nothing to do with faith. The interpretation of ancient religious texts by self serving charismatics continues to overtly influence the world's various cultures.

We have evolved beyond the need to control individual behavior with ritual fear and guilt propagation.

Once religions and the faithful can reject this aspect of control, then humanity can achieve peace and harmony and set our human potential free.

If we can allow social equality and true individual religious freedom then we can succeed in making the world a better place.

Note: It is refreshing to allow the mind to concentrate on something besides, how to get rid of the republicans from for a change.

Unfortunately, what we can expect to see (in fact, it's already begun), is a boatload of repubs switching parties (to Dem) to escape the negative image the repubs have created for themselves. I expect we will see a lot more Liebermans and Feinsteins comprising the future Dem party as a result of this conservative shift to the Dem party. Here in San Jose, which has a tradition of Democratic leadership, the newly elected mayor, Chuck Reed, calls himself a "life-long Democrat" yet his major endorsements came from the CA Republican party and he is openly opposed to equal rights for gays and lesbians.

From here on out, it will be incumbent upon voters to really *know* the candidates and their positions in order to vote responsibly--no more voting straight Dem tickets in the future, because there will be an increasing percentage of those "Dem" candidates-- like Reed, Feinstein and Lieberman (we can also add Harold Ford, Jr. to that list)-- who are out to screw us.
