Focus on the Family Praises Democrats, Slams Republicans
<snip>

The panelists, which included Focus chairman James Dobson, Focus vice president of public policy Tom Minnery, Focus analyst Carrie Gordon Earll, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, and FRC former president Gary Bauer, praised Democrats while savaging Republicans.

"Our good friend John Hostettler from Indiana lost to Brad Ellsworth, and Brad Ellsworth identified himself as pro-life, pro-gun, and anti-Pelosi," said Minnery. "Now, we're not necessarily pro-gun, but he identified himself as a social conservative. A gentleman running in North Carolina, Heath Shuler, ran openly as a born-again Christian as a Democrat. We're glad to see Christians emerging in the Democratic Party. There has been a growth of them. But they have to recognize, even if the Republicans do not, the value of values."

Minnery also quoted favorably from a recent speech from Illinois Senator Barack Obama, who has announced that he is considering a run for president. However, Minnery said, "He sounds like a social conservative. All it is so far is rhetoric. He doesn't vote according to these words."

Still, Minnery said, Democrats have "moved into the vacuum that the Republicans have left."

Perkins agreed. "The values that we care about," such as abortion and gay marriage, he said, "are issues that not just evangelicals care about, but more people in this society care about, even, as we've seen, the Democratic candidates running on those issues. … We can't shrink back now. Our values were validated in this election. We simply have to get people who will run for public office who openly share those views and will create policy reflective of those views."

1. And exactly why I would not support those candidates!
Even if they are Dem. I will not sell my rights down the river and I am sickened by those who would.

2. Considering what these people did to the Republican Party...
I don't think I want them in the Democratic Party. Let them stay with the Republicans or form a third party and stay out of our business!

9. I agree. But it sounds to me like they're going to try
and weasal their 'way' and their 'people' into the Dem party now to get what they want. I call that "pollution". We have to be watchful against these hypocritical fakers attempting to join the Dem ranks. As you said, "Considering what these people did to the Republican Party..."

5. Dolts

Just because the Dem who won in North Carolina or Indiana is "against abortion" does it really matter? The Republicants had the power for 6 years and DID NOTHING, because they know NOTHIING CAN GET DONE as the American people are AGAINST outlawing abortion...hell, even the red state of SoDakota opposed it.

So, basically abortion is just a red herring to get the fundys whacks to vote, usually Republican. All the while no laws change, no SCOTUS rulings overturned, nothing....however, while the fundies keep sending in Republican Christians, other things get done...more power for the rich, war, hatred, vitriol, theocracy, raped environment, etc...,etc...

Now with the Dems in power some of those things can be curtailed....See, us Democrats ALSO have VALUES...we value people on earth, we value children, we value older people, we value those without power or voice, we value equality and social justice....It is THOSE values that are under direct assault under right-wing rule, NOT the value of abortion.

Put it this way...Democrats and Christians Democrats will do more for the disenfranchised, the poor, the powerless, the environment, those needed food, health care, and opportunities than the Republicans EVER did for "abortion."

The fundies have been sold a bill of goods and continue to wander in their self-imposed desert.

6. Praise from Dobson is like a hug from a porcupine.
You'd like to accept it, but the thought just hurts too much.

8. I Don't WANT No Stinkin' Praise From Them!
...as a Christian they embarrass me and do not deserve any of our time. They are wing nuts and they worship money, not God. As Jesus said once when it was suggested he join forces with evil: "Get thee behind me Satan!!!!!"

10. Wow, talk about cognitive dissonance...
First, looks like ol' dog-beater has found a new one to thrash. (Google "James Dobson discipline dog" if you don't get this reference.)

Then there's the conflation of what are really morals (abortion, gay marriage) with values (which these are not). These people don't have values; they have morals written by 5,000 year old sheepherders. They ignore values. They have no ethics; they don't understand ethics. They are the definition of unethical. Dobson's treatment of his dog is merely the funniest case-in-point; but make no mistake, it's not funny to the dog.

This is nothing more than a blatant attempt to coopt the Democrats. They've failed with the Reprehensibles, as evidenced by the recent book Tempting Faith by David Kuo. Their medieval social habits have made them pariahs among all but their moralizing supporters, and they're trying to find someone they can bully. The Democrats will not make that mistake.

13. Watch for some fundie $$$ to start flowing to 'moderate' Dems...
But they'll start on the local and state levels, at first;
races where their $$$ will actually buy INFLUENCE.

Nationally, they'll only throw money at the 'SAFE BET' candidates
in 2008, so they can point to the victories as PROOF that they are
an "important and influential voting Bloc" in 2010 & '12.

Hate them or pity them, just DO NOT misunderestimate them.
They have played this game long enough that they have actually
WRITTEN some of the current rules.
