The country has beecome more conservative |
|
don't you love the mantra? The latest talking point?
So I got into a "discusion" with a local disheartneed GOPer... and he said, but you see the country has become more conservative
Well, I could have gone... talking point (It is)
Insteand... I agreed with him.
He looked shocked... then I explained, "You are right, if conservative means balanced budgets, and spend as you go... absolutely the country has become more comservative... and that my friend is what the Dems ran on."
he stood there, flapping his jowls not quite knowing what to do or say next.
So here is how you spin the spin, and by the way... it's true, it's true, many, and I mean many of our progressive candidates ran on fiscal discipline... which USED to be a GOP mantra
Oh and one more thing, given how deep the blue tsunami went... we may be talking 1932 redux, so watch out... for it will take far less time for the GOP to come back to life

1. I agree wholeheartedly |

I hope the Democratic leadership hears that one resonating message. Fiscal Responsibility! I know they'll hear the gay rights, out of Iraq, etc. mantra.

Why else would a leftist like George Allen have been defeated by a right-winger like Jim Webb in the Liberal state of Virginia.

3. i guess if they keep repeating it, maybe they will convince themselves! |
|
I think it's very encouraging (and the election proves it) that the American Public is seeing through the constant barrage of propaganda from the "conventional wisdom" folks.

4. The GOP will come back once their mess is cleaned up by Dems... |
|

...then it'll be back to caring about blowjobs from interns, flag burning, and blaming gay people for the impending fall of civilization.
The part of the Repuke "agenda" that the Repukes allow to be put forward to the public is fundamentally frivolous and only gets listened to when people have the luxury of having things going so well that they are bored enough with prosperity to again start caring about tabloid-style subjects.

If it makes the conservatives come over to the Dems, it can only help us! Dems are the TRUE conservatives!! Come on home!
This frame is doing some heavy lifting for the Dem party.

9. That is not a conservative agenda |
|
but distraction.
the GOP has labeled the left as tax and spend liberals. The largest spender in the hisotory of the US, not the modern history, but since Washington took the oath of office, has been the GOP.
So when they say... conservative values won
Turn it around
You're right, if conservative means fiscally, you are damn right skippy... we 'are

no denying that... the center is to the right of Hitler but still to the left of Atila the hun
that said... when your local GOPer uses the mantra, turn the knife a little... after all they would in a heartbeat
And you need to think on your feet and turn them talking point on their head

Already used this one once.
"Well, Dems won all over the country, but at least Crist won for Governor!"
(This obviously meant to make me squirm or scream. Instead I smile and say,)
"Yeah! Isn't it great?"
RWer: (puzzled look, the needle didn't jab)
Me: (straight faced) "I think it's really, really progressive that the state of Florida has elected its first gay governor."
Then heads start exploding. When they start going, "but -- but -- he isn't, that's a smear", you go, lightly, "listen, it's fine with me, and I think it's very open minded of Republicans to accept it. You're great to have done that. Good for you!"
