Ok, I Can Talk About This Now (INSIDE INFO REGARDING FREEPER TERRORIST)
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 02:51 PM by Beetwasher
Since he's busted and it's all over the news I can discuss something that I've held off discussing on DU about this case.

One of my best friends is a microbiologist for the NYS DOH (bio-terror unit) who was working on this case and I just want to clear up something regarding Olberman's involvement in the case.

According to my friend, Olberman handled the whole thing INCREDIBLY well. He was nothing but a perfect gentleman and totally cooperative and totally under control at all times even given the SEVERE inconvenience this was to him and it WAS a major, major incovenience; all of Olberman's personal items that might have come in contact w/ the powder had to be MELTED DOWN AND DESTROYED, among other things.

The NY Post article was, according to him, one of the biggest pieces of shit ever written. Same thing w/ Jon Stewart (perfect gentleman, very cooperative), although no nasty article was written about Stewart.

So I wouldn't know.

2. Olberman explained what happened...
...on Countdown after the New York Post article and it's just because of Murdoch and O'Reilly that the post even printed that crap. Faux is not losing its audience to the Daily Show.

It's great that your friend is able to corroborate Keith's story.

13. Yes, Keith made it pretty clear it was nonsense. Really, you could tell just by
reading the article it was a hit job. He really should sue.

4. I hadn't even heard about it happening to Jon until this broke this
morning. Amazing that all the news outlets didn't play it up like they did Keith, even though the FBI asked them NOT to discuss it at all in the first place.

Glad this guy was just a nut and didn't have access to anything that was really harmful all the same.

6. I remember after the 2004 election when we worried about KO's safety due to his broadcasts.
And he thought we were rather humorous. I'm guessin' he no longer feels that way. Eccentric, yes. Repetitive, definitely. Crying wolf, not so much.

7. Melted down and destroyed???
How long did it take to determine the substance was not hazardous? Couldn't they have waited?

24. It's Done As A Precaution
As well as for testing the material for bio-agents. I believe it had to be melted down in order for it to be tested properly.

8. If this asshole was willing to do what he did while his party was in power,
what would he be doing now that it's out of power????

Good thing he's in prison, for a good long while.

10. Actually they busted him on Thursday after the election
He sent about 7 letters one to a celeb for a second time. The Feds watched him mail them and then busted him. I guess he didn't take the election well. :rofl:

11. That Was Probably Jon Stewart
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 02:40 PM by Beetwasher
It was kept very very quiet, but Stewart was receiving the hoax letters on a regular basis for a while. Stewart seems to have been the main recipient of the hoaxes.

FYI, it was detergent in the letters.

Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 03:01 PM by Prag
I'm truly sorry his standing up has cost him... But, I think he'd agree with me
when I say it's well worth it in the end.

Thanks from the very bottom of my heart, KO!

Edit: I thought there were two 'n's!

21. I had wondered that myself, BUT...
...IIRC, it was the Secret Service that needed
info on the two tombstoned trolls, so I'm guessing
it was connected to a different investigation.

The SS wouldn't be involved unless this FReeper
was mailing threats to the pResident.

23. No, I don't believe so. Their Treasury Dept. page says:
The Secret Service's functions include:

* Protecting the President and Vice President and their families,
candidates for those offices, former Presidents and their families,
and visiting heads of foreign states and governments;

* Enforcing laws against counterfeiting currency, coins,
or securities of the United States;

* Enforcing laws against fraud or forgery of Government checks or bonds,
and other securities and obligations of the United States;

* Investigating credit and debit card fraud, computer fraud,
and electronic fund transfer fraud;

* Furnishing physical security for the White House, the Main Treasury Building,
and foreign embassies and missions in Washington, D.C.

26. Thanks for your research. I just called Pelosi's office to ask
who does guard the leadership. Answer - the capital police, even when she is away from D.C.

What I forgot to ask was who was investigating the anthrax thing but I guess I should assume the FBI.

18. Just sent a thank you note to KO - thanking him for
being a gentleman and for sticking his neck out to the point that someone would consider his prose so damaging to their narrow worldview that they would attempt this stupid stunt.

I think a mass email campaign to whats-her-name over at the NY Post for being a spiteful, hateful and, well, investigation-thwarting, trolop is in order.

What was that woman's name again? Amy something. At the Post?
