Ultimately, Republicans Will Force Bush/Cheney Resignation

The democrats "have a constitutional duty," as Nancy Pelosi has said, to investigate--- criminal wrongs, offenses to the constitution...

In the coming months, as the Democrat-led congress moves forward, dealing with the war, unemployment, health care, medicare drugs, immigration (ignoring flag burning, gay marriage, and other BS the republicans wasted whole sessions on) they will also be convening hearings. The Democrats will force the release of reports that the Republicans held back from the public. They will begin to shed line on the dark recesses that the Republicans hid.

The truth will see the light of day.

Once the dirty truth comes out-- that Bush was a criminal and constitutional violator in SO many ways, the 31% rating for Bush that we see today will look huge. The American public will demand that something be done. They will insist upon the rescue of the constitution.

1. It's a shame the American public didn't wake up earlier to the shredding of the Constitution

7. I'd like to find ways to prevent this from happening again.

It took this many years to put a stop to this. Thousands of dead people.

And before it ever began, I knew W stood for war. The day he was inaugurated, I said "here comes the war".

We must have a means of stopping this kind of abuse without the huge delay and loss. I suppose that's where "the people" comes in. But "the people" don't seem to have much going on upstairs. I know I shouldn't say that. The reality is that we won those elections. And that even further reinforces my concept. How can we avoid this kind of loss again? There are a multitude of ways. We had every bit of evidence to say that Bush was lying about everything. Not just wmd's.

Oh well. I'm just blabbing into the breeze.

it will only take 25% or so of the republicans in the senate to decide he is more of a liability in office than out and then, with enough votes to impeach and convict, they will tell him its time to go.

5. I used to think this could happen.

Now that Bush had turned the keys over to Poppy's fixers, I am more doubtful. I think Bush is going to fade away and become a caretaker president. If he stuck to his "I'm the Decider" schtick after the election, he was risking being pushed out. But not now.

Some reasons the Repubs wouldn't want to get rid of Bush as long as he stops acting nuts:

If Bush resigns Cheney becomes president obviously, but Cheney's replacement is subject to (Democratic) Senate approval.

And, if times were better they could think about putting their presumptive 2008 candidate in as VP, but I don't think they'll do that now,

6. And the thought that wakes Karl up in the middle of the night

Subpoenas issued and hearings convened by his worst political enemies. No more Pat Roberts protecting the administration by dragging out Phase 2 of the Iraq investigation. No more free pass on the regular reports Congress is supposed to be getting under the AUMF resolution. And just how many times did convicted felon Jack Abramoff visit the White House? Who did he see? What did they talk about? Seems that the visits of one Gannon/Guckert might similarly be of interest to some congressional oversight committee. I wonder if Henry Waxman is drawing up a subpoena even now for our eight-inch cut Marine?

8. This shows the wisdom of impeachment "off the table" talk.

It might be off the table now, but when the Washington Post and the Washington Times simultaneously have "People Want Bush/Cheney Impeached" on the front page, above the fold, we'll know that being patient about impeachment was worth it.

9. That's what happened with Nixon.

Barry Goldwater and other senate leaders went to the Whitehouse and told Nixon he had to resign. It was his own party that snuffed his presidency. They knew that as soon as the impeachment hearings bagan, the public would see too much and they would never win another presidential race again.

10. Big difference between Nixon and Bush

In their simplistic minds, they don't see what Bush did as actually being a crime. Republicans think in very simple terms. Lying about a break-in - CRIME. Lying about infidelity - CRIME. Lying about going to war, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths, bungling the Katrina operation, etc - politics as usual, as far as they're concerned.

11. A lot of the GOP leadership is in this almost as deeply as Bush and Cheney!

If it ever goes to an international court, the ones who provided aid to war criminals will be toast too. Warner, Specter and Roberts especially, may take the fall too.
