Sen. Lott Will Run For Senate Minority Whip
Lott Will Make Leadership Bid

As rumored since last year, Political Wire has learned that Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) will run for Senate Minority Whip. He launched a "quiet campaign" just before the midterm elections in anticipation that the previous holder of the position, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), would lose his re-election race.

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) declared last week he has lined up the votes for the leadership post.

8. Oh Yeah. Good ol boy Trent.
He's just racist - does that matter in the "minority speaker" role?

Apparently not. :eyes:

12. Well, Mitch McConnell thinks he has the Minority Leader spot
all sewn up. (Local reports is that McConnell has been slithering around all secret like jockeying for the job behind the scenes.) I don't like Lott (or hell, any other repug, but I would have to laugh my ass off if someone beside McConnell get the top spot for the repugs. It would just be a slap in the face after a week of seeing his personally anointed Ann Northup sent packing.

McConnell's neck is on the line in the 2008 election cycle and I hope beyond hope the Kentucky repug hate fest is still going strong. If anyone needs to be sent home it is McConnell. If McConnell goes so will Ron Lewis. We need Kentucky to be true blue again.

It never ends.

13. Trent Lott vs Lamar Alexander vs Mitch McConnell -- truly a popcorn moment.
I'd love to see a roster count on who votes for who. Republicans can be such vicious competitors.
