Air America Radio gets anthrax scare in mail
Three packages containing white powder were found yesterday in the mail by a worker at the Manhattan studios of liberal talk-radio station Air America, police said.

The employee made the find at the stations' headquarters at 641 Sixth Ave.

The three packages - one of which was addressed to on-air personality Al Franken - contained a powder-like substance, which proved to be harmless.

11. A. Finkelstein? Arthur Finkelstein? ???
Check this wiki out...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Finkelstein

Arthur J. Finkelstein (born 1946) is a United States Republican Party political operative. He has directed a series of campaigns, considered to be quite successful, to elect conservatives in the United States and Israel in the past 25 years. He runs Arthur J. Finkelstein and Associates, a political consulting firm based in Irvington, New York, which handles his clients. He is widely known for being a gay Republican who has worked for politicians who have taken anti-homosexual political positions.

Interesting. Surely Franken is very familiar with Mr. Finkelstein...and why would a Freeper use that name to get attention? Hmmmm...

2. This just shows how desperate these folks are to stifle ideas contrary to their
own, despite their cries of, "Freedom isn't free!" They should add "Freedom isn't free of the discomfort of hearing your own ideas disputed and sometimes dismantled by an opposing view."

Ah, dream on. Right?

4. From what I recall, the freeper caught mailing powder admitted
to the FBI that he had mailed 17 envelopes the day before he was arrested, I suspect the AAR envelopes are probably from that batch.

10. And if it were sent to you,
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 08:48 AM by MyPetRock
would you want to take a chance it wasn't?

On edit, I see you're from England. Although you obviously deal with terrorism there, it's not so much the individually targeted type we have here. There are many rightwing wackos that really enjoy terrorising individuals who hold different views. That's why people are so careful on the Internet not to reveal much personal information. And, believe me, if something with white powder arrived in my mail, I would get it to the FBI asap. Sometimes it IS real.

12. "rightwing wackos "
We do infact have them here but they are solely concerned with pursuing racist policies - British National Party , League of St George, National Front etc. I don't recall any of them being accused of mailing anything other than hate mail - which is bad enough anyway.

I would have thought that given the publicity that "white powder" receives your side that in the event of the real product being mailed that it won't in future be white powder anyway.
The most recent death here from anthrax was suspected to have been caught off an animal hide. .
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/6043870.stm

As was pointed out in TV documentary here a few years back on some of your own home grown fruit cakes - the USA has an abundance of buried dead cattle which died as a result of anthrax - the spores remain live. At the time of that program there were websites, now shut down I guess, with DIY kits to produce both that and ricin.

13. Well, like I said, I, for one, would not be willing to take the chance
that it was fake. The more thy lose in the political realm, the more crazed these nuts seem to become. I'm sure they know how to commit terrorist acts, including making anthrax, without having to surf the web. Just look at what McVeigh did.

14. Because some high profile folks got anthrax in the mail, and some
other people, a reporter and some mail workers, died. It's paranoia, but sometimes paranoia is a good thing. What would you do if you opened a letter and a fine cloud of dust came out of it? Come on, be honest with yourself if not with us.

18. If you are a mail clerk, a liberal politician or personality, it's not paranoia.
Ummmmm, do you recall the REAL anthrax attacks?? Twenty-two people were infected with REAL anthrax in 2001.

IT KILLS PEOPLE.
