Newsweek's John Meachum on Imus praising Poppy/Where's that Crowning Moon
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 08:41 AM by KoKo01
photo. Obviously Meachum and Newsweek and MSNBC only have Presidential photo's of the Great Poppy coming to the rescue. The Dem Blogosphere needs to push that photo of Poppy at Moon's crowning ceremony taken a few years ago when Moon was crowned in one of the Congressional rooms on the Hill.

Anyone have that photo?

On Edit: I just found link to YouTube clip of the ceremony but I'm Dial Up and can't watch it to see if it shows Poppy. Maybe someone can scope it and see if it's good enough to pass around.

"We have no king but Jesus." -- John Ashcroft (quoting someone else)

That didn't take long. After members of Congress invited Sun Myung Moon into the Dirksen Senate Office Building Mar. 23 (as covered exclusively on this blog; here's the impressive guest list), where he was crowned the Messiah, his movement was quick to incorporate images of the event in this movie about Moon's accomplishments. It's the best footage yet of this remarkable Washington Times event. (This Quicktime movie in English is also excellent, and more accessible.)

Above 12:30 into the Windows Media link, there's a shot of Congress, emphasizing that this is the peak of the Times publisher's glory:

3. Thanks....Did you see among the Co-Chairs: Lanny Davis and Harold Ford?
I had forgotten the impressive guest list....sheesh. Lindsey Graham was on the Invitational Committee.

What the heck are Harold Ford and Lanny Davis doing Co-Chairing that event...

5. The Organizing Committee is what I worry about and the only Dem
names I recognized were Lanny Davis and Harold Ford, jr.

The link to the Invitation is on the site I linked in my OP. I can't get it to highlight to post it. I know there was mention of Dems like Conyers being in the room...but the explanation I heard was that they wandered in to see what was going on. Conyers isn't on the Invition list as a sponsor or organizer, thank goodness.

7. A better picture would have been him celebrating Moon in Argentina
Poppy went down to Latin America to help the Good Rev. open a newspaper.

http://consortiumnews.com/archive/moon1.html

Excerpt:

...Given the controversy, Argentina's elected president, Carlos Menem, did decide to reject Moon's invitation. But Moon had a trump card to play in his bid for South American respectability: the endorsement of an ex-president of the United States, George Bush. Agreeing to speak at the newspaper's launch, Bush flew aboard a private plane, arriving in Buenos Aires on Nov. 22. Bush stayed at Menem's official residence, the Olivos. But Bush failed to change the Argentine president's mind.

Still, Moon's followers gushed that Bush had saved the day, as he stepped before about 900 Moon guests at the Sheraton Hotel. "Mr. Bush's presence as keynote speaker gave the event invaluable prestige," wrote the Unification News. "Father and Mother sat with several of the True Children just a few feet from the podium."

Bush lavished praise on Moon and his journalistic enterprises. "I want to salute Reverend Moon, who is the founder of The Washington Times and also of Tiempos del Mundo," Bush declared. "A lot of my friends in South America don't know about The Washington Times, but it is an independent voice. The editors of The Washington Times tell me that never once has the man with the vision interfered with the running of the paper, a paper that in my view brings sanity to Washington, D.C. I am convinced that Tiempos del Mundo is going to do the same thing" in Latin America....

With all this talk of "moderate" Poppy returning, this needs to be more known.
