Shouldn't we be more about lurring Senate republicans to join the Democratic Party? |
|
It seems to me that if we could get a few of the more moderate republicans to wake up and smell the coffee, they may want to join the winning team. That may be a better way of rearranging the power structure, rather than beating each other up over jodus.

1. This is where Mitch McConnell comes in |
|
If he tries to be the asshole that he is and go extreme right-wing, I think the ladies in Maine might jump ship. I'd take Arlen Specter too.

I think they still have a conscience, and would be most likely to change.

2. I think that the jumping ship talk is more smoke than fire. |
|
It makes for nice speculation and has happened, but those who jump ship lose their positions and I don't know if they are ever really trusted again. As in the case of Lieberman, he loves all of the attention and if he jumped ship there would be hoopla for awhile and then Joe would have switchers remorse, except he would have burned his bridges behind him. He would have his 15 minutes of fame and then it would be downhill. Just mollify Lieberman for a couple of years and then some new and added gains in 08 when there are many more Republicans up for reelection than Democrats. This is not to say that jumping ship cannot happen, but nobody is going to do it lightly and simply to join the winning team. I don't think we need to court or lure and Republicans to switch, but simply let them know the door is open if they want to come in.

Only if they belong in the Dem party. What is their use if they still vote with the Rs like they did on important votes? We should better concentrate on voting them out.
I know that there is always this talk about the two in Maine but I don't really know whether they repeatedly voted with the Dems when it counted. At least Collins didn't concerning the torture vote and Snowe would have supported it as well.
On the other side, they and Specter and a couple of other R Senators are hated on FR. So maybe they aren't that bad ;).

6. No. We don't need to recruit them. We're the best. |
|
If they want to be with the best, they'll come to us. If not, they can stay republican. Just because they're in the other party doesn't mean they can't vote with us on things. In fact, that's to everyone's benefit because it makes us all look bipartisan.
