Worth repeating: Operation Told You So
A great piece from March, made even more poignant by the mid-term results:

Operation Told You So:
No one could have anticipated the Iraq disaster, except the 40% who did
Allan Uthman

--snip--
I sincerely wish the Neocons were right, that freedom and Western values would have magically flourished in Iraq, spilling out from Saddam’s broken pedestal and flowing across Iraq’s borders into Iran, Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East. But the whole idea sure seemed stupid to us whacky leftists at the time.

And you know what? We were right. So maybe next time, you shouldn’t just dismiss us as terrorist sympathizers or white-livered elites. Maybe next time you should listen to us, and forget the idiots who’ve been lying to you the whole damn time, sweet-talking you into giving up hundreds of billions of dollars and thousands of gallons of blood just to make total asses of ourselves in front of the whole damn world. And maybe you won’t be so quick to trust the same people again.

But probably you will. Because the only thing harder than admitting you were wrong is admitting that the other guy was right. But you should; you really should, because that’s how people learn. Just admit it. You were wrong. We were right. I’ll try not to bring it up again.

1. They all thought they were so smart.
That's the weirdest part. All these neocons had shiny degrees in foreign policy from the top Ivy League schools. Yet they didn't know what most of us knew from the beginning. I guess it shows that all the intellectualism can't substitute for a little common sense.

6. I told them it would probably end like this. I do remind them of that.
When they say "Who could 've known it ould be like this?" I answer, "I did. I expected that it would end like this. That's why I was adamantly against it."

They ask "How could you know?" I answer, "The information was out there. History, current events, what was actually going on with the weapons inspections as opposed to what the adminstration was saying, lackof support form other countries, etc."

The warmongers just wanted to go to war.

2. Thanks for the link.

"“The threat of mass death on a scale never before seen residing in the hands of an unstable madman is simply intolerable--and must be pre-empted.”
–Charles Krauthammer, October 7, 2002"

Much as I can't stand Charles Krauthammer, he was right about this.

3. How they can live with themselves I just don't know...
They have sent people to their deaths, and for no good reason. Those poor soldiers. Imagine having your friend die, and then realize that it was for no reason!

How could they do such an awful thing?

4. Some will never see the light... I'm still getting
emails from one of my cousins with crap to the effect of, since the repubs lost the election, 'god help us' 'things are going to get bad' 'the terrorists are going to attack us now because of this' -- it's INSANE. How on earth can they really believe this?? I would hope that I'm open-minded enough & have enough common sense that I would recognize if the Democrats ever started just outright feeding us bullshit & deliberately hurting our country, and have enough character to put my foot down and say, I supported you but not anymore because this is wrong....

The ones who still support Bush are just like Bush -- they will never be able to admit they were wrong.

5. Yep, many still think being in Iraq
is protecting us from world muslim domination. These are the same people who will never admit defeat in Vietnam. "If only the hippies hadn't made us pull out we'd have won." 30+ yrs later and they STILL won't admit they are wrong. Like stubborn little breath-holding toddlers.

7. Drop your cousin a line
"Gee, the terrorists hit us just the once, didn't hit us again, and now you're worried that with the Democrats holding a portion of our country's power, they'll hit us again? Does that suggest anything to you about who the terrorists want to see in control of the country?"
