I want our troops home NOW - not a "strategic redeployment" BS |
|
Now that we have control of Congress, we need to bring our boys home now. I don't want to hear anything about a "phased" pullout. I don't want to hear anything about a "strategic redeployment" to either Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, or anywhere else in the region. This war has now lasted LONGER than WWII did. How long is enough?

1. Who is this 'we' who now control congress? |
|
An attempted face-saving "peace with honor" is what's brewing.
I wish it were otherwise.

2. Sadly, I suspect you're right |
|
I keep forgetting about LIEberman. He might as well be a GOPher when it comes to issues like Iraq.

3. 'They' compare this to the post-war phase in Germany |
|
But I see your point. This is an entirely different situation. The Germans knew they were defeated at the end of the war and were not fighting among themselves at the time.
I was just wondering on the train this morning about the differences in their policing versus ours. Do most Iraqis (for lack of a better term) carry identification? Are forensics there as sophisticated as ours supposedly is? Do they consider the control police have on U.S. citizens unacceptable?
At any rate maybe you're right but the Democratic government is not in control yet.

4. It's not going to happen. |
|
There will be no immediate and complete withdrawal of troops. strategic redeployment and phased pull out is the most we can expect.

6. why we need a phased redeployment |
|
There is a real reason why we have to do this as a phased redeployment. There are things we have to do in order to outprocess out of Iraq. It is going to take time to for the units to give back specialized equipment, account for ammunition, and to arrange flights out of Kuwait. You can't just ship every one here on one plane!! It is going to take a few months even if we decided to pull out right now. This is more of a logisitical thing than anything else. I ought to know since I am in the Army and I am in Iraq.

7. Do you really think that is what people mean when they say |
|
NOW?
Don't you think they mean as soon as possible? Possible being the key word. That expression people use when they know there isn't a plane large enough to carry all of you out AT THE SAME TIME.
Shit, if we had a magic wand and could wave you home, we would. But since we don't, we can settle for as soon as humanly possible can't we?
