Bus waste victims suing Greyhound

An Ottawa County family has learned the hard way that getting behind a passenger bus on an interstate highway can be dangerous to one's health.

Robert and Angela Stokes of Graytown are suing Greyhound Lines Inc. in Lucas County Common Pleas Court over a load of human waste one of its buses released on their sport utility vehicle as they were on I-75 in Toledo on a spring day in 2005.

The waste from the bus' sanitary tank went through the open windows and sunroof of their 2002 Ford Explorer, contaminating the outside and inside of the SUV and drenching the occu-pants, including their son, 9, and daughter, 10.

The Stokes, who were covered with urine, feces, toilet paper, and human waste, were returning home after celebrating Mother's Day on May 8, 2005, at a Toledo restaurant.

What I find most appalling is that you think it's even funnier because it happened in Ohio. :wtf: I don't accept 'jokes' like that about Texas, so I'm sure as h@ll not going to sit back and let it happen to Ohio, either. That's what's really cr@ppy about this story.

That family could have been exposed to some pretty horrific diseases through that waste. I hope they win their lawsuit, that is just disgusting. I will never be able to be behind a bus again without thinking of this. I usually pass them anyway, now I know for certain I will! :puke:

THis sounds like more than a grievance problem. Isn't this a dangerous thing
for Greyhound to be allowed to do?
What about public health standards?
Would an ordinary citizen be allwed to dump feces, urine and tp alongside the road wherever they pleased?

I'm sure Grayhound isn't allowed to do that, and there had to be some malfunction. They sure still deserve to be sued. I can't even imagine that happeing to me! Just think about it makes me cringe and gag!

That is so disgusting.

Bus bathrooms are hideous. My older son is in high school band and I've made some trips with them on buses. Indescribable stench!

or disgusting. Or both. (I had about 8 different emotions while reading this story.)

This happened in May of 2005, and is being reported in November of 2006.
Why hasn't Greyhound settled? Why the hell would they let this story go on. A half a mil... or two mil... wouldn't break the company and would have shut this story down before a whole lot of damage to the company image.
