Sen Levin To Begin Investigations Of Rendition/Torture Abuses
Senate to investigate rendition abuses

James Sturcke
Tuesday November 14, 2006
Guardian Unlimited

Abuses carried out under the CIA's secret programme of extraordinary rendition are to be investigated by one of the Senate's most powerful committees, it emerged today.

The new chairman of the Senate armed services committee, the Democratic senator Carl Levin, revealed that he was "not comfortable" with the rendition system and said it was making the US less secure.

The extra-judicial programme has seen untried criminal suspects rounded up by CIA operatives in more than a dozen countries and sent to third states for interrogation. Some captives have allegedly been snatched off the streets and suffered torture in detention.

Asked whether he would investigate the renditions programme, including the secret prisons and missing detainees, Mr Levin replied: "Yes. Yes, yes and yes."

9. My congressman!
I love Sander, he's the best. I've been lucky, as far as my congressman go. I lived in Conyers district from 1989-2001. Before that I lived in Bonior's district, and when I moved back to Macomb, it was still his district, but that changed with redistricting. Southern Macomb got lumped into the southern Oakland district (Sander's) and a new district was created for north Macomb to give Candace Miller a GOP seat.

21. Just moved to Maryland, but still proud of Carl Levin
Michigan has had a fine tradition of quality senators (even some Republicans, back in the day when there were Republicans with a conscience) and Carl Levin is right up there. I will always be a Michigander, even though I am proud to live in another beautifully blue state now - Maryland. I know it must be tough on Carl to be taken seriously - after all, he is such a sex symbol!
