Poll inspector refused to remove abortion stickers at polling place, called her “Baby Killer,” and allegedly tried to stop her from voting

A California voter has told RAW STORY that she was verbally intimidated and physically assaulted by a poll inspector after asking that pro-life/anti-abortion stickers outside a polling place be removed or covered.

“There were two cars parked in the driveway adjacent to the poll entrance which had anti-choice bumper stickers on the back windshield. When they opened the poll door, I told them that it was a violation of Election Laws to have electioneering literature within 100 feet of the polling place,” said Josan Feathers, a civil engineer and elected member of the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee. The polling place, which has a La Mesa mailing address, is located in the unincorporated area of San Diego’s East County, a region dominated by conservative Christians.

1. Bumper stickers are excluded from electioneering rules.

At least according to the City of Milwaukee election manual. (I was a poll watcher this year.)

The assault and verbal abuse, however, is inexcusible, and a poll worker is NOT ALLOWED to express even a friendly opinion that could be construed as influencing the vote.

2. I saw Hannity and Colmes on Friday night

The had a dem woman who said that she's sick of republicans calling her a baby killer for being pro choice. Hannity then asked her to name two prominent republicans who have called pro-choicers "baby killers" and she couldn't. I was yelling at the tv "Pat Robertson and Ann Coulter!" Both have been quoted as referring to either liberals or feminists as either being baby killers, or wanting to kill their babies.

3. Even if she had quoted PR and Mannthraxx

hannity would have dismissed them as "oh, they're not prominent REPUBLICANS", thus skirting honesty by about a country mile ...

4. this is actually good news

What I get out of it is that the people on the right wing are so scared that they have to resort to this kind of behavior. They just don't get it. They know deep down inside that their ideology will not win the hearts of the American people. We need to show some of the conservatives that we love America too, that want to make America a better nation, and that they really aren't as conservative as they think. Heck, I used to be a Republican. If I can change then some of them can too.
