Holy Joe to chair Homeland Security Committee
Senator Joe Lieberman, forced to run as an Independent to win reelection, will be retaining his leadership position in the Democratic Party and become chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, MSNBC is reporting.

Last week a spokesperson for Senator Harry Reid, soon-to-be Majority Leader, said that the Connecticut senator would retain his seniority and become chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee in 2007.

After meeting with his party colleagues today, Lieberman told the press that he was pleased with the warm reception he received: a standing ovation. Lieberman had faced a tough election battle against challenger Ned Lamont who beat the 2000 vice presidential nominee in the Democratic primary.

"Obviously, I've been changed by the election, so now I'm an independent Democrat, but everybody was very warm and welcomed me back," Lieberman said today. "I look forward to working with them."

****
The good news is, he probably won't flip. The bad news--well, let's just say it in advance: Heckuva job, Joe.

1. Interesting
So now he's still an independent democrat? Perhaps this is what he wanted and he got it so he's not changing?

He could also run for President as an "independent Democrat" (if there was such a thing), and bypass the whole primary system--which was not kind to him last time around. He'd be a well-funded spoiler, possibly, in the '08 race. Not that anybody'd actually vote for his sorry ass.

13. No, he would not be a well-funded spoiler.
Neither Democrats nor Republicans could be that sure who his votes would be coming from.

14. Joe's a Republo-tard posing as a "moderate" Dem. In a national election,
hardly any Republicans would vote for him, but some center-right Dems and a lot of Indies might. That would be the plan, anyway.

5. That's what I suspect.
Another back-room deal. I'm pleased with the outcome if it means Dems keep majority status and committee chairs.

4. I don't particular care for him in that position.
Wasn't he in the group that wanted another organization to look into "unAmerican activities" or was that my imagination?

6. So, Rawstory now thinks Lieberman was able
"to win reelection?" I thought earlier in the day they were pushing the CT that Lamont got EXACTLY the same number of votes as did Lieberman's opponent in 2000 suggesting, of course, some sort of impropriety.

Perhaps they've learned the difference between primary sources and secondary ones.

8. Without "Holy Joe" caucusing with the Dems, the Dems would be in the minority.
This would be a good time to get over it.

10. They'd be tied, technically--50/50.
With Cheney casting the deciding vote. And if it's okay with you, I'll continue to be convinced that Holy Joe is a colossal douchebag until he does something major to alter my opinion.

Joe, David Zephyr asks: can we get the unions back at the Homeland Defense Dept. for our government employees?
