If Cheney is forced to resign, I don't think * will replace him with McCain. |
|
Here's why. Once the investigations begin in earnest, Poppy, who is now running the show, is going to start maneuvering to save the family name, along with all the other BCF political up and comers. That can only be done if Cheney and * resign, in that order, and a new veep is inserted who will pardon *. The family would NEVER live down a trial, much less prosecution of jr. Resignation, with the guarantee of a pardon, saves them some face. It's still disgraceful but limits the damage.
The new veep will have to be some toady who either doesn't want to run again, or who can be "persuaded" not to. The public wouldn't elect someone who pulled such a blatantly corrupt stunt (e.g. Ford couldn't run after he pardoned Nixon). That rules out McCain, who obviously wants to get elected president in '08 and '12.
For this plan to work, the resignations will have to happen before the '08 elections. I predict sometime this spring.
I'll bet the ground work is already being laid.

2. If they are pardoned, would they still be subject to international |
|
prosecutions, such as the one being attempted in Germany?

5. Well, other countries could prosecute, but I doubt the US will turn them over. |

13. At least they'd know they could never leave the country, |
|
and there would be some judgement against them.

3. Of course gw wouldn't do that - that's silly..... |
|
Having McCain as veep would severely limit what gw was able to do - since gw would in that case have to be sensitive to the electoral needs of his veep.
Duh.

8. Condi Rice would be the best candidate if Cheney resigned... |
|
since Bush is obsessed with how history will see him. It would also be a good move for republicans as a whole.
Just as Reagan was the first to put a female on the supreme court...

10. And she would definitely pardon him. Probably Cheney too. |

After all, look at all the dirt they have on her.

and we could join Iraq in a civil war. They better not try to pull a Jerry Ford; it won't work this time. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ain't gonna get fooled no more!
Further thoughts: THIS is why Impeachment CANNOT be off the table. It is the only way to stop this foolishness before it gets started. An Impeached and convicted and removed Bush cannot jerk the country around any more!

The BCF has too much to loose if there are trails, because there would be many.

9. I believe the groundwork has been laid. |
|
But for some reason I still think it will be McCain. I don't know why, I just do. Lindsay Graham is another possibility. I guess only time will tell.

She's said plenty of times she has no interest in being President.
She'd do what they told her to.
She would go down in history as not only the first female VP, but the first black woman VP, & she would be attached to the Bush name, thus removing some of the tarnish from the Bush "brand." The dynasty wouldn't be sullied.
A win-win for the Bush camp.
Poppy isn't about to let his no-talent worthless son screw up his dynasty.
