If Abramoff knows 6-8 corrupt Dem Sen, How Many corrupt Repub Senators? |
|
It does not make sense with the close ties between Abramoff and the Republican money laundering corruption machine that there could be more corrupt Democratic Senators than corrupt Republican Senators.
So how deep into the Senate does this go?
And why would there be the comment made to the press and by the press on this issue?
This sounds like an effort to provide Abramoff with 'protection' once he enters prison.
I have wondered why Abramoff was not 'Jack Ruby-ed' before now, given the breadth and depth of his knowledge of corruption on the Hill.

1. If it's true, I say throwthe corrupt Dems out too! |
|
I still find it very hard to believe that there are dirty Dems in the Abramoff case, and that info didn't come out until after the election! A lot of effort was put into finding dirt on Dems so the Pubs could just say, "them too!" For this to have been secreted this long is quite questionable.

3. I think the alleged corrupt Dem politicians |
|
is just smoke.
The press has taken to planting subliminal cues. Just a mention of supposed corrupt Dems. No solid accusations, not even any names. Mislabeling Foley as a Dem when saying bad things about him on Fox. Etc. With nothing concrete, the half-attending viewers get this impression that there are a lot of corrupt dems, even though there is nothing there.
Look at what's happening right now--how an unsubstantiated, off-the-cuff comment has generated a whole bunch of ripples even here.

names..its just smoke....funny he doesn't know if its 6 or 8...I seriously doubt we would not have heard about this before the election...ya the republicans would just be so nice as to wait until after the election...if Abramhoff knows 6-8 dems so do the Republicans. They made fun of MJ Fox...ran racist commercials and said Dems where in league with terrorist but passed on the whole Abramhoff Dem thing...ok..sigh

Charges get press attention, the media does not care if they are true or not. In a lot of things these days, you are guilty if charged/accused. Allegations are treated as fact.
This goes back to the Nazis in WW2, if you say a lie often and loudly enough, people will believe it is true.

6. I agree, that is what I was driving at when I mentioned 'protection'... |
|
... it does not have to be true to accomplish its purpose of providing him with 'protection.'
If there is evidence of Dem Senator corruption he is about to reveal, then those who want Abramoff to disappear might be willing to forestall efforts to shut him up right away.

7. Abramoff is a liar, a crook and a thief...why would his word mean shit? |
|
He should serve a long long prison term as a prison bitch to be traided for cigarettes.

10. Abramoff will be a 'star prosecution witness' regardless.... |
|
... and prosecutors typically take info from a source like Abramoff and verify it independently through other witnesses and evidence.
Abramoff is looking to cut that lengthy jail sentence, so you can expect him to 'sing' about everyone he knows. Whether a jury believes him is another question.

9. it's only corrupt if votes were bought: lobbying or funding is not illegal. |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 12:24 PM by Lerkfish
considering only the republicans have been in charge, I'm very skeptical that dems had any leverage to purchase in the first place. Therefore, I disbelieve this claim from ABC until proven otherwise. The reason Abramoff is going to jail is because there was a quid pro quo from his channeling of monies to republicans AND their resulting votes/actions. However, as a lobbyist, many of his transactions were NOT illegal. If a client wanted to donate to dems, too, then that does not make those dems automatically corrupt.
Cunningham is an example of what WAS illegal: he had a menu of what level of bribe determined what action he would take. If a dem (or a repub, for that matter), only received donations but made no promises of resulting action, or was not in a position to influence resulting legislation, then as far I understand it, that is legal.

Jackoff is now done talking and headed for Jail, he he had something good to tell prosecutors he would still be free. But he is not, so how much weight should we put into the 6-8 DEM story?
Not alot I fear.

If there are 6-8 democrats why hasn't he released the named before this. Why has he held them close to his vests. If there are he should name them or ABC should shut the hell up.
