Will the next GOP "star" come from a governors mansion?
There's been some discussion of the repugs picking a new shining star that isn't tainted by the smell of clearing brush...

Seems to me the MO in the past has been to pick a governor.

Arnie's out cause he's not eligible to run, but I am sure there is some other repug governor that is getting grooming treatments from the party.

McCain and Ghoul-iani will probably run, but I doubt they will be the party's choice.

What do you guys think?

1. A couple governors for certain.
Romney (Mass). Maybe Pawlenty (Minn). I'm sure there's another or two. I think they know that a second Bush has no chance.

I think Romney is Mckain and Guiliani's main competition in the primaries. At least at this point. I think Condi is damaged beyond repair. Colin has fallen from grace (or may have leapt).

2. I think McCain will win the nomination and he'll ask either
Romney or Guiliani to be his running mate.

3. Good possibility.
I think it'll be either McCain or Romney. If it's McCain he'll probably pick a more socially conservative partner, maybe Romney, not Guiliani. Same with Guiliani.

4. Governors make good presidential candidates.
For one thing, they don't have congressional voting records that can be skewed and misrepresented. For another thing, they've done a very similar job, albeit on a much smaller scale. Aside from international relations (and some do even get involved in that) they have experience in many of the same issues that face a President: budgeting, education, social issues, working with a legislative body, etc.
