Senator Reid Implicated by Abramoff
Abramoff Reports to Prison; Officials Focus on Reid, Others
November 15, 2006 1:23 PM

Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz Report:

As convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff reported to federal prison today, a source close to the investigation surrounding his activities told ABC News that Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was one of the members of Congress Abramoff had allegedly implicated in his cooperation with federal prosecutors.

A spokesperson for Reid, elected yesterday as the Senate Majority Leader, said the senator had done nothing illegal or unethical.

"We have no idea what Abramoff is telling prosecutors to save his skin, but I do know that these kind of old allegations are completely ridiculous and untrue," Sen. Reid's spokesman Jim Manley told ABC News.

A source close to the investigation says Abramoff told prosecutors that more than $30,000 in campaign contributions to Reid from Abramoff's clients "were no accident and were in fact requested by Reid."

1. Nice try, JackOff...
Reid was named earlier this year, and despite the RW smearing, is still clean.

8. Exactly.
Why not reveal this information pre-election, when it was at its most valuable?

5. If it is true I hope he will be removed from his post as majority
leader.

But it will have to be proved.

7. This is an old charge...he voted against Abramoff's position on
Casino gambling. No quid pro quo. Taking money from lobbyists isn't a crime...although we really need to reform that whole arena of influence on Congress.

11. I hope Reid is innocent, as I think he's a good man. But if he's involved
in anything illegal or unethical, HE NEEDS TO GO.

This should be motivation for the Dems to finally do something about the lobbying industry...like do away with it completely. It breeds corruption, takes power away from the people, and puts it in the hands of those who shouldn't have it.

13. "A source close to the investigation"
translation: No truth to the allegation! If they refuse identifying who the "source" is, probably means is a reliable source.

I am so TIRED of the manipulation of these so called sources. Whenever I see someone speak or write about an unnamed source I pretty much figure it has no basis of reality. And is either a smear campaign or some other distraction......

16. I quit listening to and watching ABC News...
long before they ran the 9/11 swiftboat movie about Big Dog. But it certainly made it clear to me I'd made the right decision. This helps too.
