Air America is running a neo-con nut
job Glenn Beck commercial, are they that hard up for money? I swear the SOB is on CNN Headline News 24/7. Glenn Beck is nuttier than Bush Rumsfeld and Chenney all put together, he makes Limpballs look like a moderate.

2. It's a CNN commercial

And they're at least spending money to support the station and/or AAR, so more power to 'em.

That's the justification Kos gave over at DK. If a company like Chevron wants to support him, then that's fine. And I have no problems with that.

Are you listening to an affiliate or the AAR web feed? That may be a station spot.

6. In that case...
...it was likely an AAR spot.

I say good for CNN for supporting AAR. In fact, I wrote a blog entry about this very topic today. It's all about why it's so important for radio station owners to support their progressive talk stations. You can check it out here:

They need the revenue. Beck is a little nutty though, I can't stand him, but his money is as good as anybody's.

9. Actually when I signed up to XM I was under the

impression the it was commercial free. There are times on my 1/2 hour drive to work where I doubt if there is 5 minutes of actual programing on AAR/XM. Most of the commercials are promotions for other channels on XM. I think I have heard the one for Bob Dylon's Dreams, Theams and Sceams a thousand times.

11. On XM and Sirius
Talk stations are not commercial free. They usually take feeds and there are natural gaps for commercials. I think many of the commecials are network feeds from XM. ( Hence the Dylan commercials.)

on AAR and yes most of them are promotions for other XM channels I assume AAR gets paid for them don't they?

Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 09:21 PM by Fighting Irish

This shows all network and local breaks, along with news breaks, ID's, etc.

This is identical to many other radio network clocks.

like the clock they us then. I guess I can understand the Glenn Beck advertisement, it really seems like a dumb place to advertise Glenn Beck and a waste of money on their part. It is sort of like advertising AAR to Rush Limbaugh's ditto heads. I have never timed the total programing in that 1/2 hour, but that one morning I started out at 4:59 am and the actual program never got started until 5:11 am. Maybe something went wacko I think they played the Dylan thing more than once. Randi Rhodes is my favirite also like Young Turks and Al Frankin. I thought Malloy sounded a little nuts sometimes calling everyone SOBs, bastards and such. Sometimes I just get pissed off at all the comercials and go to a music channel.

8. I trust AAR listeners to know the difference -- as long as he doesn't get a show.
Then -- that's a bad thing. Otherwise -- money is money is money, and they're willing to bet we're stupid enough, and I'm willing to bet we're not.

Irritating, though. I'd like to punch him. Is that wrong?

15. yup, atrios said much the same thing recently--
if he chooses to run only liberal ads, then he is infact censoring, so he just doesn't censor at all (except for FCC requirements, if any, I suppose)

We'll take that fool's money if he thinks we're a good venue. It's good for business.

13. Glenn Beck advertised on Air America?!
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 08:50 PM by waldnorm
No worries, we at least have a public service announcement on where to go to learn about the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes. It comes from this information-based web site, you know the first stop to get information on such hazardous effects at www dot philipmorrisusa dot com So at least Air America is providing a great public service to us with their corporate based advertisers.

wasting their money paying for commercial time where their return might be in the range of a million to one.

I doubt any of the money went to AAR though, it is most probably ad time sold directly by XM in the same way local affiliates sell ad time on syndicated shows to pay the cost of the syndicationa and make a profit.

18. It's commercial radio, big deal
If you ran a business, would you screen your customers for being Republican?

CNN's ca$h spends just fine.

Glenn Beck is a right wing tool; he was on Rush Limbaugh's show today humping this little dog-and-pony show.

The fact that they are having to advertise on Air America oughtta tell you something. No offense; but just think about it.

during the Stephanie Miller program.

It literally ran every other commercial break during the three hour program.

23. Well...
Some local ads are whatever the account executives sell.

Others are national spots via a network buy Remember the infamous ABC Radio blacklist? That's what that was. And the whole 'blackout' list is much ado about nothing, but more on that some other time.

The rest are network spots. According to the clock I posted, AAR reserves five minutes per hour for their own spots (often referred to as 'barter' in the radio business). Local affiliates get 17 minutes or so, including news breaks (optional), promos, ID's, etc.

And why wouldn't CNN advertise on AAR? Talk radio is a pretty ripe market there. It most certainly makes sense. And they're willing to spend the money, so more power to 'em.

29. there are NETWORK commercials that are inserted by AAR
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 04:54 AM by Rosco T.
.. at the NETWORK level, local stations have their own commercial slots (take a look at the clock posted earlier)

on XM, the 'local' commercial breaks are filled by XM promos.
