OK—it’s been a week now. How many of you have experienced first-hand accounts of Repub meltdown?
They really are ignorant and stupid, aren’t they? I’ve often read of exchanges here on DU about discussions with freepers and fundies, and was amazed at their cluelessness, but I never thought I’d be in such an exchange myself!

Just yesterday, a woman with whom I’ve worked for nine years started ragging on me from out of the blue about the election. “I suppose you’re happy!” came her taunting remark. Since I knew she was a rapid Repub, I’ve never engaged her in political discussion. But she through down the gauntlet so I obliged her!

Without going into details, here is the gist of the 20-minute “debate.”
She was happy to have Geo. W Bush as president—I told her that Bush lied us into war. 600,000 Iraqis and 3,000 Americans died for the control of oil…
She believes we need to stop terrorism in Iraq; I said there wasn’t terrorism in Iraq until we invaded…
She said Saddam had WMDs; I said he didn’t: we didn’t find any—she said he did but transported all the WMDs to Syria; I asked her why with billions of dollars in spy satellites we didn’t have photos of Saddam moving over a 1,000,000 pounds of chemicals?—she couldn’t answer me.
I said 15 of the 19 attackers on 9/11 held Saudi passports, so why didn’t we bomb Saudi Arabia into oblivion?—no answer. I said 2 more attackers held UAE passports and Bush wanted to turn over management of our ports to UAE corporation. I told her not a single attacker had an Iraq passport.—no answer.

She said Saddam gassed his own people; I said that’s true—he did it with chemical weapons and logistics supplied by US. I also told her that the incident reported by the corporate media took place in 1988—14 years before the US invasion of Iraq. So, why, I asked her, did the US wait 14 years to go after Saddam? I said Reagan/Bush and Bush/Quayle seemed comfortable with Saddam gassing his own people, why was it different with Bush/Cheney—no answer.

She tried to bring up the recent Murtha reports, citing a right-wing news site; I said I’d have to check on that particular news site to see if it was credible and told her that the Repubs are so upset at losing both the House and Senate, that reports like this will surface more regularly. I reminded her how fervently the Corporate Media went after John Kerry and his purple heart. How shameful it was of the Repubs to question Kerry’s military accomplishments while overlooking Bush the military deserter—no comment.

She began to sound like a parody of right-wing, neo-con fascist Repubs, like she was trying to sound that way for humor’s sake. But I knew better. I was angry at first, but then came to feel sorry for her…

I learned later she belittled a fellow co-worker about the stem-cell initiative passing in Missouri. This fellow suffered a stroke about 10-12 years ago and still walks with a noticeable limp. Apparently, according to two sources, their exchange went something like this:
HER: “I suppose you’re happy!”
HIM: “What do you mean?”
HER: “Well, the Democrats won yesterday!”
HIM: ?
HER: “You did vote for the Democrats, didn’t you?”
HIM: “I vote for the person I think will do the best job.”
HER: She then went on to compare stem-cell research to killing babies
HIM: ??
HER: “Well, you’ll be dead before they find a cure…!”
HIM: ???

I’ve heard that this fellow has stopped speaking to her. It's a good thing she didn't say these remarks to me. As a diabetic, I would have gone acrimoniously atomic.

But I still feel sorry for her…

2. No don't feel sorry for her....she is selfish and she is mean
We have been giving these type of people too much leeway...allowing them to be disrespectful, hateful and just unAmerican....

These people need to be marginalized and treated with the truth..let them hang around each other and ruin each others lives..

We owe them nothing....!!

Sorry for the rant but her comment to your co-worker with the stroke was uncalled for....

3. Good job!
I haven't talked with my most wingnutty sis yet, but I'm looking forward to her response at Thanksgiving. We haven't spoken since a huge fight after she said that she could never vote for any democrat after what Kerry said about the military. I tried to explain to her but she wouldn't listen, so I finally got so digusted and told her that I was done with her. We'll see.

6. I came up with a good retort about that today, by the way.
A supporter of Junior was saying that "Kerry shouldn't have said that." I said, "he screwed up a joke -- did you read how it was supposed to come out?" She said, "well, he still shouldn't have said that!" I said, "yeah, the guy who has done everything he can to get services for our vets, who got in trouble in Congress because he wouldn't talk to guys who hadn't been to 'Nam, who still has metal in his body from his time in combat -- HE'S going to really intentionally insult the troops!"

He blew a joke. When I want to hear a good joke, I'll tune into a comedienne. When I want thoughtful, reasoned analysis and good policy, I'll call Kerry.

7. Another retort: Bush shouldn't have said...
"The terrorists never stop looking for ways to harm America and neither do we." There aren't even two ways to read that one. So why is it that Bush gets a free pass to flub a line and Kerry doesn't? Bush shouldn't have said that. Why isn't there outrage?

9. similar respones?
These good folks around Branson, Mo are so "blinded by the right" that they can't see the hope that stem cell offers.

Since this issue was on our ballot, I have done alot of research on this and it's amazing, the possibilities for cures seem endless.

It's also quite amazing how ignorant people can be about the facts?
They won't even read about it? afraid , if they do, they will go to hell.

I was very fortunate to work in the Claire McCaskill campaign making phone calls and getting to feel the pulse of our community?

The war and stem cell were the issues on everyones minds. I haven't received any calls from my neighbors yet, so, they must still be mad about my yard signs. Well, we won, they will never admit their better off for it.

10. Your co-worker is off her rocker. She speak as if she's asking for it.
But anyways, there's this one co-worker in my office that is an avid Bush fan. A while back she had her W'04 magnet on the door to her office. I carpooled with her a few times and she had her Bush/Cheney sticker on her car. I would never discuss politics with her since I knew she was a repuke and I don't know if anyone else did either (except maybe other Bush fans). But after the Democrats kicked butt the other night, I noticed she appears to be in a grumpier mood. Being the good little liberal I am, I didn't gloat or rub it in. Instead I rather blab about it on the internets. :)

11. We don't yet have a definitive answer about the gassing of his citizens thing.
It was during the Iran/Iraq war. Both sides were using gas and survivors and rescuers reported evidence of cyanide gas as the gas that was used (almond odor and blue tinged skin). Iran used cyanide gas and Iraq used a different kind. Sort of academic...
