3. It's part of the entire voting process to elect chairmen and leaders. |
|
I'm guessing here, but I would think we'll hear something around 3:00PM. That seems to be a time when everybody likes to make news.

Gosh I hope Murtha wins. I have a feeling it's going to be Hoyer, though. Most Dems don't want to voice support for Hoyer publicly because they don't want to cross Pelosi. But it's a secret ballot, and I've been hearing that a lot of rank and file Dems really trust Hoyer and want him in the leadership, so they will vote for him without making a big stink about it.

9. I disagree. Despite the war stance, Murtha is the more conservative |
|
of the two - and the war stance came fairly late in the game. Not to mention that Hoyer would be a far more competent majority leader in and he has less ethical baggage (I do not mean Abscam - I mean earmarking and influence peddling). We are not a one-issue party. Iraq is important but so is good governance. In the House good governance outweighs Iraq, imo. If we really want to reverse as much of the Bush and Republican agenda as possible, Hoyer is way more likely to get it done than Murtha so I fail to see how that is not learning the lesson of the election. Remember, corruption and abuse of power was also a major lesson or the election. Pelosi is the one who did not learn the lesson of the fall of the Republicans in the House. She is using Tom Delay tactics to push Murtha and the sooner she gets her wings clipped on that nonsense the better chance the Democrats have of actually changing the way things are done in the House.

10. All of your arguments are valid, imho. I feel that we need to demonstrate |

that we (Dems) are going to change things up; there are many more qualified than either Murtha or Hoyer, but between the two, Hoyer seems to represent 'stay the course'. The electorate has spoken, and 'stay the course' is NOT where the future lies.

6. The Pelosi-Murtha thing... |
|
Pelosi publicly supported Murtha to return a favor. I doubt she's pushing many folks to vote for him.

7. Idon't know about that. I've been hearing reports that Nancy has |
|
been on the phone a LOT soliciting votes for Jack. I guess we'll see. We all have to remember that this is strictly a political process, and payback favors time.

She is propping him up, but not putting her nose to the grindstone for him.
Hoyer already has the leadership pedigree. Hoyer is actually, overall, more centrist/left than Murtha is. Murtha just has the right Iraq credentials....and his endorsement puts a good face to Pelosi.
